I know xbox controller dongle don’t work on steamdeck, so it is only playable with Bluetooth. Is there much lag? Will i have to buy different controllers to play without wires with a friend locally?

What controller is the best or good enough to play (without wires and with unnoticeable lag)?

That seems easy to install and fix. Do you have to update de drivers regularly? When a new steamOs update comes do you have to just run the fix again or will the lag be unresolved for some time?

I just installed it before posting so I’m not 100% on that. Looking at the notes it seems like steamos updates breaks it sometimes. If it’s not working I’d run the install/update shortcut that was placed on the desktop and I’m sure Savagecore will fix it if you let him know it doesn’t work.

The Xbox controller (the series version) works just great.

There is no lag and the button layout is exactly the same as on the deck itself (that is based on the Xbox layout).

Maybe the only downside is the fact that on the normal Xbox controller there are no ‘backbuttons’, any functions assigned to these buttons are lost when playing with a controller.

It’s certainly not based on the Xbox layout since it has asymmetrical analog joysticks and the Deck isn’t. Also the triggers and such are labelled differently.

Xbox 360 USB dongle to the Dock works perfectly. I prefer Bluetooth xbox 1 controller though

I’ve bounced from Xbox series to PS5 Dualsense to 8bitdo Ultimate.

Dualsense is just the most seamless one with no latency issues and feels amazing, even has gyro which makes it the best to me. But I only use it if I’m playing PS2 or an FPS. Haven’t owned a PlayStation since the 2, but this is a very good controller.

Ultimate controller is my standard controller for PC gaming. Can swap between Switch and Steam Deck very easily, but a big con is having gyro and the rear paddles not usable unless in Bluetooth mode. Also sometimes the 2.4ghz dongle doesn’t connect, so having to unplug and plug back in gets annoying.

Lastly Xbox. Never was an Xbox guy but wanted to give it a shot. Decent ergonomics, but needed a controller update on Windows to be usable which was a hassle(I have a MacBook). No gyro, the loudest of the three controllers, needs updates every now and again or it won’t work. Not a good experience.

For Steam Deck only, I’d recommended a Dualsense. If you also have a Switch and want a controller that works seamlessly between the two, id recommend an 8BitDo Ultimate Bluetooth.

Love my ps4 for most uses, occasionally I bust out the xbone for fps and when I’m feeling like emu I pull out the duke or a 8bitdo controller. I’ve pulled out the sim wheel twice over the past year.

Honestly they all work fine imo each has its ups and downs, but I haven’t had any issues unless my deck is like 8ft from me and even then if I’m not playing a fps I don’t really notice it
