I posted this on Apple subreddit but I also wanted some thoughts from Samsung users maybe you guys can give me more insight to switch over since I casually use my android and I been wanting to get a Z Fold:

“Hello fellow Apple users. This is a long post but I wanted some Insight.

So I been an Apple user for a long while and I do prefer Apple but I used and had both Samsung and Apple phones (iPhone 12 ProMax, Samsung s22 Ultra) I used the Samsung as a backup phone when my phone died I would swamp SIM cards and run the android. Or if I felt like I want to run android I would switch over.

That being said though I’m heavy into Apple ecosystem. iPad, MacBook, watch, AirPods and max, Apple credit card. The credit card is one the main reasons why I stay with Apple. I use it mainly for bills and I have the savings account with Apple. I just feel overtime the Apple Card is losing its “features” that made the Apple Card amazing. Like 0% APR for financing an Unlocked Sim IPhone. Now you have to use the 3 big carriers in order to do it. While I use other cell service like visible or spectrum it’s kinda frustrating that I can’t use a feature of the card anymore, unless I am part of those 3 carriers.

I have other platforms that can replace the things I use like Spotify and my bank offers 4% savings account. Other apps like drafts, a pdf editor, a note taking app notability, are some of the apps I use that are only on Apple. Then there is the formatting that I think app developers focus on IOS that I think are better. Or simple stuff like some apps like Snapchat having dark mode vs android doesn’t.

I might be rambling and losing focus here but I was just wondering if you guys felt the same and are thinking of leaving the platform? Despite I prefer Apple os, I apparently type better on iPhone vs android, in the ecosystem that I like and I think is better, and the Apple Card is a nice card but considering the changes in starting to feel like it’s not all that great anymore. I’m just thinking of going to android whether it be Samsung or OnePlus. Any thoughts?”

Personally, I like my current Motorola better than any Samsung phone I had before.

I am on iPhone and didn’t switch to any android because for me iOS just feels better and more smooth to use. Go check in the store if you like device before switching

@DARKPYRO58 - You’d mentioned some things about the messaging on android (sms) and I’d highly recommend the Textra app - I’ve used it for at least 5 years or more and it’s SO much better than the standard android messaging (from either Google or Samsung). Totally worth it to buy the Pro ver - but you can check it out with free version first. And the dev is top-notch - great responsive support.

I saw a quick YouTube video on it. It’s actually something I would enjoy using. I only wonder if it will work the same as other messaging apps once iPhone goes to RCS. Most of my friends and family uses iPhone so I wonder when using Textra it will work like normal IMessage just with the green bubble. In assuming it would work. But thanks for this recommendation I definitely see myself buying this app to use! Any other recommendations is appreciated!

How old is your Apple credit card in relation to the age of your credit? Assuming you don’t have that big of a limit and if it’s young compared to your average credit, closing that card, if you were to switch, would not hurt your credit score that much. If it is one of your older cards and/or you have a large limit on it, I would see if there’s a way to manage it through your Mac or iPad if you want to switch, as you would not want to close that line of credit and hurt your credit score.

Every other Apple product you have will still work with Android/Samsung, but it won’t be as seamless with some features not working (similar to how some Samsung products don’t work as well with iPhones), and you’ll have to find a workaround for AirDrop.

I honestly can say using both iOS personal use and a galaxy for business. It’s not a bad trade off . Both have pros and cons but I enjoy the galaxy for sure and the freedom as a power user to do a lot of cool Linux based stuff and tinkering , however even if your not into custom OS etc, the galaxy series stick are still great in my opinion , I actually just got a s21 (2021 model) on sale for $180 and it hands with todays handsets with the snapdragon 888 . It’s a beast . I also have always used iPhones since they released and always jailbroke them , having that freedom on Android I’d pretty alright for sure . Again I like both . The point is I don’t think if your parents asking away from Apple you would be very disappointed especially with rcs coming to android (iMessage ) you get your blue bubbles:) give it a shot you can always go back

Vast majority of everything will be the exact same. Instagram is Instagram, banking apps, etc, etc, will all look and feel the exact same.

Ask yourself what are you going to gain by switching? Does that outweigh what you will lose? For example, is a folding phone worth losing iMessage and FaceTime? Is losing the integration with Mac worth it because now you get to customize your entire experience?

Staying in the garden has its perks. Leaving it also has its perks, like the freedom to choose whatever device you want.

The decision is up to you.

I was having the same conversation just yesterday with a relative and was mentioning that once you are invested in the apple ecosystem, they make it difficult to leave as all your data and backups are stored on either iCloud or there are other apple products that make the ecosystem difficult to leave. Personally for myself, I’ve only used one iPhone but never was heavily invested (as I used Google apps over the apple ones) and have used an android ever since and I enjoy being able to sideload apps, use open source apps from f-droid and also prefer the level of customization that apple doesn’t offer. Also, if you do switch to Samsung and get a S or the current Z fold, you will be able to use DEX and benefit from that.
