Hey guys i’d like to switch to Linux (maybe Manjaro) completely and I was wondering how good would be the performance of my AMD Ryzen 5 5600g on it while gaming, there’s any gamer with Linux here, I would like to read your experiences.

Would probably be better than on windows with the 5600g, but you should make sure that the games that you want to play are playable on Linux before you switch over fully.

Keep your windows install around on another drive as a backup. Best thing you can do is grab a cheap SSD to put Linux on to experiment with.

I’ve been using Linux for a long time and while it’s gotten incredibly good for gaming, it still has some weak points and can give you issues. Sometimes you’re just gonna want to have Windows there if you wanna play something and not think about it. But hey in a few more years that probably won’t be the case.

As for what distro, please just use fedora. Garuda, nobura, manjaro, or any other distro that adds a bunch of stuff just isn’t worth fooling around with for your first distro. Fedora is up there with ubuntu for popularity and support, both being maintained by large organizations. They have their own media writer, they support everything you’ll ever need, it’s stable and up to date as well.

Using EndevaourOS here, it is just fine. Tho RT performance is not at desired levels, which is somewhat ok because 99 percent of the games that i play doesn’t have RT.

    Mesa 23.2.1

I used Endeavour OS for a while before I moved back to Windows for some things that I needed.

Experience wise, overall it was nice. I could play most of my games but had issues with some of them. 1-2 games had stutter issues and few of them were not opening at all. From what I gathered, it was a user (my) error, as others didn’t have the same issues that I had, but I couldn’t figure out myself.

Probably because I have a modern CPU and GPU, which needed more updates. Besides that, I was pretty happy with it.

Been using a dual Boot system (Win10/Manjaro) for close to 4 years now. Never hurts to put Linux on a seperate ssd/m2 and give it a try.

After some odd problems (not recognizing a dlc) with Steam/Proton I decided to stick to native Linux titles and they work just fine, so it depends a lot on the games you play / required hardware. If you play on Steam, Proton seems to require fiddeling for some titles, but again, depends on what you play. You can check https://www.protondb.com/ to see what you are getting into.

With my 3700X/5700XT, I had no issues with the Tomb Raider 1-3, Red Dead Redemption 2, City Skylines, American Truck Simulator, Mini Metro, Torchlight 2, Graveyard Keeper, Spiritfarer etc.

I can’t comment on CPUs, but Radeon is the way to go with Linux gaming. I haven’t booted into Windows in years and play whatever I want.

Do not switch to Manjaro. Manjaro is problematic. Go either arch or pop os, or something that works. Depending on the distro, you might have to update drivers to a more “unstable” version.

I am completely switched to linux. The vast majority of my games work and work well. Steam is obviously the most important piece to make this work. Bottles is also good and Lutris. For gog+epic games you can use the heroic launcher.

Unless the specific games / programs you want to play with don’t work, your experience will be actually very good. It’s amazing how good gaming has become on linux.

The great part about Linux gaming - you can use FSR1 for every available game squeezing a few more fps on a week hardware.
