I just updated to 3.5.5 recently, and I noticed a big difference from the screen quality. I’m not sure what exactly.

I know that they added Display Colors adjustment, but I didn’t expect that it made the screen look better in my opinion.

Sadly I don’t have any comparison images from the old updates. In my eyes, it just look more vibrant and more contrast. A lot better than the VibrantDeck plugin.

I find this really interesting, since I thought that the LCD Deck will just “abandoned” and disregarded by people or by Valve. Obviously, OLED will always looks better, but this update also affected LCD version in a good way.

Any thoughts about this?

Yes, they changed the default color profile to a more accurate emulated sRGB one.

Think of it like the display finally getting calibrated. It was always there and capable of it, but the color profile before was really bad.

It certainly improved however, it is default very yellowish. I went to the settings last night and changed the options to actually get a better display. If I am not wrong, I pulled the first option all the way to left and the second one to all the way to right but you guys can go and experiment.

Gotta say I think the vibrant deck plugin aloud the colors to be pushed way further on the LCD than their new color srgb sliders in the 3.5 update. colors don’t pop like that plugin let them. Shit felt like the OLED was already in my hands but now 3.5 borked the vibrantdeck plugin. Wonder why 🤔 hopefully that wasn’t a low-key tactic to get us to but OLED if we already have an LCD SD

Hmmmm, interesting to hear, I must fiddle with the settings then when I get a chance.

My biggest gripe with the Deck is how dull and flat the screen imagery is, I was quite bleak that the OLED came out so soon, would have preferred to wait if I knew it was coming but the fact they repeatedly said there were no immediate plans to upgrade the device, I thought that was it, I got quite interested when that screen upgrade came out but was not interested in the installation process, hopefully this update improves things for my old man eyes…

Valve isn’t Apple, they don’t abandon their hardware. They’re still releasing firmware updates to the Steam Link box that they released in 2015 and discontinued in 2017, that’s their level of commitment.
