I think the writing is on the wall for the Windows driver. They’re still releasing “new” drivers that list Polaris/Vega, but you just get the older branch if you install them on those cards. They could technically just do that forever, and keep pretending they’re continuing support, but it’s likely that an announcement is imminent on the Windows side too.

Won’t be surprised if Windows is next. I mean after all Polaris/Vega cards haven’t gotten the last 3 driver updates. Atleast we have Amernime drivers though.

When you post a link post and it’s not visible on the “new” list in incognito mode it means it was held back by subreddit or reddit moderation rules. In such case you can contact the mods and ask what’s the problem. If it’s a false-positive spam case they approve, if something else then you get an answer, probably :)

I’m pretty sure AMD has contributed to RadV in the past and probably will continue to. The overall move has been from AMDVLK to RadV anyway, so realistically, I don’t think this is going to impact anyone.

There was no move in the first place. AMD took so long to open source AMDVLK that RADV was already in a usable state (and used by Linux distros) by then.

This doesn’t affect 99% of Linux users, as Mesa RADV is the default and typically better choice.

The question is: is the AMDVLK driver based on the same code as their Vulkan driver for Windows?

My 1070 still gets official support, and it’s older than Vega. FineWine lol

This news won’t affect anybody since nobody uses this driver, but it’ll be a big deal if they discontinue support on windows.

I would like to buy an oxp mini 5800u device because I found it in my locality for good money, but I would like to run linux on it (SteamOS or ChimeraOS) or another alternative that will be the best. My question is whether there will be linux drivers for vega 8 on a device with a 5800, because if linux doesn’t run there optimally enough, then buying this device wouldn’t make much sense for me.
Does anyone have experience with 5800u and linux drivers now ?

That’s why it’s much better to use Mesa’s RADV, I literally don’t know anyone who uses AMDVLK as their daily driver.

To be clear this is the official AMDVLK driver, and not the Valve backed RadV which is what most Linux users run.

I was afraid for a second until I read AMDVLK, I own a Vega card and I appreciate whatever updates I get.

I didn’t know radv, I just followed the arch wiki on amdgpu and it doesn’t seem to mention it. How can I change to it?
