So, I made a post about an issue I’m having with my left bumper. Anyway, I got on to Valve and they’re going ahead with an RMA even though I’m slightly outside the warranty window which is amazing! One thing I’m mixed up about is the whole thing about ‘making a backup’ and ‘using Rufus’? I don’t know if I actually need to do that? I’m going to factory reset of course, but I’ve only done some very light emudeck instalation. Surely if I just uninstall emudeck and get rid of those files I’ll be OK? I’m worried about making a disc image and somehow borking the deck. So basically; only unofficial software I have installed is Emudeck, can I just delete it and factory reset my deck before sending it? Thanks in advance!

if you dont care whats on there, valve certainly doesn’t care. Only time backing up is needed is if you did not want to redo all your work.

I would wipe it (as a general practice when sending anything with data anywhere). Otherwise it will return to you in a state similar to how it came out of the box.

I would use a bootable RescueZilla (or at least CloneZilla, but RescueZilla is more user friendly for people used to GUI stuff) to create a backup image of your Deck, just in case, before it leaves your person. You want to restore your data when you get your device back, or get a new device
