This will be my first time buying a Steam Deck. Work has us going back to the office more often now and I would rather spend my evenings on the couch with my dog rather than sitting at my desk at home.

It seems that the LE seems to have an increased issue with dead pixels on the panel but beyond that nothing seems to be popping up with an alarming frequency. I have a 512GB OLED that I upgraded with a 2TB SN770M and it’s been great.
Got the non-LE 1TB version and love it. been a worthy upgrade from the 512GB LCD. Everything about it is better, but the battery life especially is noticeably improved. Been enjoying Dead Cells at 90fps. Goddamn!
AS u/F34RA11 pointed out, there’s a “run” on dead pixels with a few received Decks, mostly with the LE models. Some buttons have been called out across the models, too.
No issues so far with mine.
Really - the only question you need to ask yourself is how much stock storage you need (which is DIY upgradeable, as you probably know) and whether you want the “bling” of the most expensive option. Otherwise, buy, download, and play.
Anecdotal but no, I literally opened it, signed in, and went. I did mess with cyro utilities and emudeck and such because I love doing that, but really it can as easy as open>update>download>play.

There’s some reported issues with the LE models, primarily with the panel having a greater chance of dead pixels and some people reporting a mushy d-pad (my own LE is fine on both counts). I think the level of reporting has a bit of selection bias, but is still a legitimate point to make. So, if you were on the fence between the 1TB standard and 1TB LE, I might go standard. Aside from that, nothing of note.
My X button was sticking on the 500gb OLED. Other face Buttons felt a little loose as well. Requested a RMA and hoping they will accept and fix. The sticking X button just ruins the experience for me.
Is RMA sending back and wait them to fix, or a replacement was send first?
I decided not to do it after all, I think I was being a little over sensitive and the X button isn’t sticking that bad or often anymore.
RMA is sending the console back and then they test it and fix it. If they cant fix it they send you a new console back. If they can fix it, you will get your original deck after it is fixed. It usually takes a few weeks for this process to complete.
I like my a lot and never had any issues with it. Can’t wait to receive it…
Let me just say I almost bought the Playstation Portal but I’m glad I went for the SD Oled.
Chiaki4deck is amazing. There is legit like no input delay. Every app I’ve tried from the normal PS Remote play to the third party PS Play one have had some delay with inputs. Chiaki’s delay seems basically non existent if you have the internet.
SD OLED is great. Can’t go wrong with it.

Something to think about. - don’t get the 500gb to save money, only get it if you’re sure you don’t want the matte screen
Buying a 1tb SSD right now during black Friday deals is about $70-80, or most of the extra $100 you’d pay for the 1tb deck. They’re actually extremely fair with their pricing of the models, so if you ever want to upgrade storage you’ll basically pay as much as you would have but not have the matte
I have the LE OLED and no issues, no dead pixels or anything else, I love it! Upgraded from 512 LCD
I am loving mine. I got the 512GB. I can’t afford a proper up to date gaming PC so it is now the most capable machine I own for running more recent titles. It feels like a magic trick every time I open up something like Diablo IV or Midnight Suns and it just works.
This sub convinced me to check for dead pixels and I have no issues. I have no LCD to compare with but the buttons feel good to me. My headphone jack delivers clean sound. Again I can’t compare the image to an LCD deck, but the image quality impresses me way more than my Switch OLED ever has. As a device it just has a wow factor that the Switch model never gave IMO.
Dont get the LE, it uses a BOE panel that is more prone to dead pixels. Also, be aware there is a static issue with the audio out. Not sure if that will be fixed or not.
