I’m in the UK and had a notification my 1tb OLED steam deck was being delivered on Friday 24/11. I waited in and at 1330 hours I get a notification that it’s been delivered with a picture of it handed to a neighbour. The problem is I have no idea where this address is. I’ve asked all my neighbours (knocked on about 20 houses in the end) and no one has it. I phone parcel force and they tell me it was handed to an address in a different road by mistake. So I go there and the address (or door on the picture as its quite distinctive) is no where to be seen. I phone parcel force again and they tell me the driver will go back to retrieve the parcel on Monday. At this point I have little hope of whoever has my OLED actually giving it back to the driver so now I’m £580 out of pocket and no new steam deck. I just can’t get my head around why the package was handed to a random stranger and not taken back to the depot for me to collect. I did not give any permission for this and never do for this exact reason. I just hope someone takes responsibility for this and refunds me the £580. It’s clearly parcel forces fault but I have sent valve support a message telling them what’s happened and not heard back in over 24 hours so far. I just hope someone compensates me as this clearly is nothing I’ve done.

Thing is the one who got the item is under no obligation to hand it out to you. It’s his now. Best settle it with Valve and let them settle it with the courier

Tell Valve what happened asap. They will refund you or send you a new unit. They will handle it with parcelforce.

This is the right plan. If they deliver it to the address you provided and it walks off, that may be on you. But if they deliver it to the wrong address, I’m confident that it’s their obligation to make it right. (Might take some persistence on your part. Keep copies of all the notifications, doorstep photo, etc.)

I still cannot believe this can happen with a fucking delivery that costs that much. Like if it was an AliExpress package.

This will not be your fault. I’ve had an expensive tech item delivered to a neighbor before. (It ended up being next door behind their flower pots) However, at the time, no one knew where it was and I ended up getting UPS involved with the claim.

You’re fine with UK law, parcelforce have admitted it’s been misdivered. Valve can’t charge you as the parcel isn’t in your hands.

    Sucks though

Obviously they fucked up this order, but thank you valve for not using FedEx, they are pure trash. At least parcel force DPD, royal mail and Hermes have ways to pick up the parcel if you’re not in or will redeliver without a massive delay.

My comment is probably a bit ignorant, so let me know if I got something wrong or if those are worse than fedex

Worth pointing out that if the person doesn’t hand it back they can be prosecuted under British law.

They did the same thing for mine, handed it to a random neighbour I have never met. Worse was I am out of the country so couldn’t even go to get it. Fortunately I called another neighbour who I trust who kindly went and picked it up the same day. I fly back to London tomorrow, very excited to have it in my hands.

Glad you got it sorted mate. Really bizarre isn’t it that a delivery company will drop a parcel with a random stranger. Enjoy anyway when you get back home

This happened to me with my ROG Ally and DPD, so I phoned them and I made sure the driver went to collect my parcel from the wrong address, then he tossed it over my gate.

I had this happen with a limited edition guitar worth about 3000 euros. One of the worst days of my life trying to contact the delivery company.
Luckily I got into contact with the delivery person after a few hours who went to the wrong address and picked it up again and I got my guitar.
    Don’t give up 👍

It’s not your responsibility until it’s in your hands. Basically valve or parcel force need to sort it out.

When I ordered the lcd deck over a year ago, Evri (formerly Hermes) stole 3 of the deliveries ( they never got out of the central distribution centre). Valve customer support sent out a new one each time.

However, they refused to send out a fourth deck and agreed to refund me. After a bit of back and forth, Valve relented and fedex’d a Steam Deck on a 48 hour business courier service from Seattle to the UK!

What I’m trying to say is that you should be in pretty safe hands with Valve. My experience of their customer service is excellent.

I didn’t pay anything extra. I don’t know if valve covered it or I was just lucky that it didn’t get picked by customs.
