Tell me when the hell an RX 580 will ever need to use anywhere close to 16gb? It’s a freaking 580… you’re not going to fill the vram at 1080p. I can’t wait to hear the brain rot arguments parroted by HUB and LTT.

Stalker Anomaly with a texture pack would do it, my 8gig rx580 gets around 7.5gb used up playing it at 1080p.

Its not like things are going to be suddenly super beautiful vs ugly.

I saw no difference from going Ultra in doom eternal taxing the VRAM up to 7.2GB. It only made it slower since it had to proces more.

VRAM is only there to such extends that you do not have to swap in between VRAM and system memory over the PCI-E bus, which is obviously slow.

Big difference in between actual use of VRAM and alocated or simply used as buffer.

Well OP asked where an rx580 would use 16gb of vram , and I gave him an example from my experience. If you think I would recommend anyone to buy a 16gb rx580 for gaming my answer is hell no.

For stalker though a hi res texture pack really helps visuals a lot. Since the original game/assets are from 2010.

It’s for AI acceleration. In AI training (and with LLMs, inference), the VRAM is basically hard limit of the complexity of the AI model you can run on the GPU. 20GB is enough to train some small LLMs, 10GB is not.
