So I’m not sure if this has been discussed before, but since I’m new to the steam deck (oled). I noticed when you are downloading games, the screen will stay on the same static image the whole time. now I know that OLED screen these days are more durable towards burn ins, however having no kind of screensaver or at least be able to download the games while the console is sleeping definitely doesn’t help the screen lol.

I might be wrong and there might be a setting, all i know so far is that i can just dim the brightness. but would be cool if there was some sort of setting to have a screensaver of some sort.

What do you think?

As far as I know, no screensaver. From my observations during downloads, it stops downloading when the screen is off. I’m not concerned about burn-ins, I don’t believe I’ll see any change in display quality for at least 2 years. Definitely not after 6h of downloading games. xD

For the time being just lower brightness to minimum when downloading games. At minimum brightness it will be next to impossible to get screen burn in.

I think it’s absolutely ridiculous to let the users figure out a way to
    a. download games without having the possibility to turn off the damn screen
    b. not implement a screen cleaning or saving feature for the OLED version

It’s 2023 and the Switch did all of this out of the box (well almost). 🤷‍♂️🤣

I’d say that’s a no go for devices like this!

I plug it into my dock.

It forces hdmi output even if my tv is off. So i started a bunch of downloads then just connected to the dock and walked away

It uses the same kind of panel as the Switch OLED, dim the screen and don’t worry about it. (Unless you’re looking at the downloads screen at full brightness for 18,000 hours, then maybe worry about it)
