I held on to my Note9 for as long as I could, but I think in a few months I’ll switch to S24 Ultra. While I’m excited for the better camera, I’ll be missing some features like the heart rate sensor, simulated home button, microSD slot, iris scanner. But the thing I’ll miss the most is the 3.5 mm jack.

While in general I’m not against bluetooth headphones, I still have 3 good wired pairs of headphones and I’ll be using them with a 3.5 to USB-C adapter until they stop working, which might take a while. What worries me the most is the fact that I’m running a lot, with my phone in my pocket and listening to music via the headphones. And I don’t mean some light jogging, I’m running fast, my phone is jumping in my pocket and I’m worried that this might damage the USB-C port on the phone.

What was your experience when you switched to the phone without the jack? Did you get used to it easily or did you miss it?

I started using wireless headphones when I had my eyes on a phone without a jack. I was suspicious because the only set I tried up to that point was one free one that my spouse got free from work, and they were not good. But I gave it another chance and found the perfect ones. It was so freeing, honestly. I use headphones for everything because no one in the family wants to hear each other’s media. I watch stuff on my phone or tablet when cooking or folding laundry and being tied down with limited range of movement SUCKED. Being able to walk away from your device while listening is a blessing.

Here’s the thing, though. Those tiny buds that come with charging cases are SO bad. I can’t fathom why they are so popular. You always have to carry the case, you can’t hang them on your neck, if one falls out of your ear, it falls on the ground and can get damaged or lost. Battery life sucks. They are incredibly expensive. And there are no controls. I use Sony WI-C310. They go down to $18 (in the US at least) all the time. The battery packs on the sides weigh it down and keep it in place as it hangs around your neck. You can’t lose one, you don’t need a case, you don’t even need pockets. Battery lasts for days, and you have controls for start/pause/volume/skip and to answer and end calls, right at your fingers.

As for your current wired ones, use them at home with your computer. Use them any time with your phone except when you are running. You can also get a bluetooth adapter which turns your headphones into BT ones. You plug them into a small device that connects to your phone (you may need to plug a second small device into your phone, I’m not sure).
