Kinda disappointed this article doesn’t have at least a “best guess” of comparison to the Xbox numbers.
I’m sure Microsoft is well aware of how PS5’s are selling (roughly 2x the combined series X and series S numbers as of this summer) which probably is why we’ve seen a few opportunities for discounts lately.
It’s once again obvious that Xbox console sales won’t ever truly compete head to head with the PS5, but it would have been nice to see the current numbers just to know if MS is keeping pace.
All they had to do was call it the Xbox 720 and people would’ve tripped over eachother in the streets on the way to Best Buy trying to get one. It literally could work like a 1980s Atari. The hype from the name alone would basically be enough.
Exactly. I’m not exactly a hardcore gamer. But the fact that a PS5 + a gaming laptop enables me to potentially play 95% of all available games, really makes me wonder why I should get a Xbox (or switch for that matter).
The PC leeching form Xbox has been a great thing for players overall but it negatively impacts console players with the forced cross play. Xbox mainly wants you on their service, easier to sell Game Pass than a console.
PC games rarely come to console but all console games go PC. PC has ruined multiple games via cross play due to rampant cheating and the advantages of kbm vs controller, any talk of auto aim on controller is just a distraction.
I don’t own Xbox or but have a ps5 and switch but if i truly wanted to play one of their exclusives I rather just spent the extra to build a pc as it’ll allow me to play with friends on steam
Final Fantasy 16 is currently a Sony exclusive. Final Fantasy 7: Rebirth will be when it launches as well. Spider-Man 2 is also on my console and an exclusive.
I’m thinking if the PS6 isn’t a Steamdeck knockoff, coupled with a Windows-compatible Gamepass knockoff, then the PS7 definitely will be. How long can the console market truly survive being outclassed at launch?
It’s crazy to think how much the XBO’s launch fucked the brand.
Like, if you compare the total sales of PS3 and X360 vs PS4 and XBO, the difference is actually not that big, both around 160 mil. But the how big the shares are is staggering between the two generations.
Everyone who might conceivably desire to play games on Xbox can just do it on Gamepass. There’s far too much crosstalk between those two metrics, they’re effectively the same audience, and one specifically eats into the other and vice-versa.
Microsoft’s biggest strength, by a metric f-ton, is that a person doesn’t have to settle for the third most powerful platform to play their library. That’s the biggest reason why Gamepass is a success. You can toss midrange hardware at the library and get a better experience than any console can offer.

Xbox revealed that they sold 21 Million XBS consoles in June.
It’s hard to justify an Xbox when there aren’t exclusives.
Great for us, bad for console sales.
If Sony ever completely gives up exclusives I imagine their console sales will plummet
Most PlayStation games are on PC so what the hell are you talking about? 🤨

Why do you have a PS5 when virtually all its games are on PC? Are you just really ignorant and bought into the lie of “PlayStation exclusives”?

How is it bad for console players?

Are you high? What Sony exclusives are you talking about?

Yupp. PC gamers looking for a console on the side have 0 reason to buy Xbox, several to buy an PS5

Maybe M$ will find some more publishers to buy and studios to eventually shut down and franchises to ruin thinking that’ll get them on top…
