I know scalpers trying to sell ps5 for $350 lol
My ps5 has been collecting dust, havent touched it since RE4. Cant wait for gta 6.
Kinda disappointed this article doesn’t have at least a “best guess” of comparison to the Xbox numbers.
I’m sure Microsoft is well aware of how PS5’s are selling (roughly 2x the combined series X and series S numbers as of this summer) which probably is why we’ve seen a few opportunities for discounts lately.
It’s once again obvious that Xbox console sales won’t ever truly compete head to head with the PS5, but it would have been nice to see the current numbers just to know if MS is keeping pace.
Xbox?
Everyone who might conceivably desire to play games on Xbox can just do it on Gamepass. There’s far too much crosstalk between those two metrics, they’re effectively the same audience, and one specifically eats into the other and vice-versa.
Microsoft’s biggest strength, by a metric f-ton, is that a person doesn’t have to settle for the third most powerful platform to play their library. That’s the biggest reason why Gamepass is a success. You can toss midrange hardware at the library and get a better experience than any console can offer.
It’s hard to justify an Xbox when there aren’t exclusives.
Great for us, bad for console sales.
If Sony ever completely gives up exclusives I imagine their console sales will plummet
I’m thinking if the PS6 isn’t a Steamdeck knockoff, coupled with a Windows-compatible Gamepass knockoff, then the PS7 definitely will be. How long can the console market truly survive being outclassed at launch?
I don’t own Xbox or but have a ps5 and switch but if i truly wanted to play one of their exclusives I rather just spent the extra to build a pc as it’ll allow me to play with friends on steam
Exactly. I’m not exactly a hardcore gamer. But the fact that a PS5 + a gaming laptop enables me to potentially play 95% of all available games, really makes me wonder why I should get a Xbox (or switch for that matter).
Why do you have a PS5 when virtually all its games are on PC? Are you just really ignorant and bought into the lie of “PlayStation exclusives”?
The PC leeching form Xbox has been a great thing for players overall but it negatively impacts console players with the forced cross play. Xbox mainly wants you on their service, easier to sell Game Pass than a console.
How is it bad for console players?
PC games rarely come to console but all console games go PC. PC has ruined multiple games via cross play due to rampant cheating and the advantages of kbm vs controller, any talk of auto aim on controller is just a distraction.
Most PlayStation games are on PC so what the hell are you talking about? 🤨
Yupp. PC gamers looking for a console on the side have 0 reason to buy Xbox, several to buy an PS5
Are you high? What Sony exclusives are you talking about?
Final Fantasy 16 is currently a Sony exclusive. Final Fantasy 7: Rebirth will be when it launches as well. Spider-Man 2 is also on my console and an exclusive.
All they had to do was call it the Xbox 720 and people would’ve tripped over eachother in the streets on the way to Best Buy trying to get one. It literally could work like a 1980s Atari. The hype from the name alone would basically be enough.
Maybe M$ will find some more publishers to buy and studios to eventually shut down and franchises to ruin thinking that’ll get them on top…
It’s crazy to think how much the XBO’s launch fucked the brand.
Like, if you compare the total sales of PS3 and X360 vs PS4 and XBO, the difference is actually not that big, both around 160 mil. But the how big the shares are is staggering between the two generations.
Wish I had one😁
Hey, this is good news for Microsoft now that PlayStation is part of the Xbox community.
It is my goal to buy one this month. That’s my number one mission.
They’re pretty much in stock everywhere now. Or can you not afford one?
Get the digital one! I got the CD version and got elden ring with it, honestly it’s pointless because I still need to have the game files on the console, which means you are not saving storage.
Unrelated but I end up paying $100 more on 1TB SSD + heat sink to not uninstall games every few weeks to try new ones :) So consider purchasing SSD if you find a good one on sale!
Funny enough, the cheapest place to buy one now is on StockX.
My brother got one for 325 just 2 days ago for the disc model. After fees it came out to 386.
Basically 150-160 bucks less than buying it in a store.
Yeah, because they’re trying to recoup their stupid investment from scalping. Still shouldn’t purchase from them though. Scalpers are scum
Buy the new slim?
I achieved that mission this month! Dude you’re gonna be so fucking blown away! Best of luck
Good luck, it’s a awesome system, hope you enjoy it this holiday season with plethora of games.
If you’re in the states go to Best Buy and get that 18 month ni interest
I originally wanted a PS5 but couldn’t get one because Sony for some reason couldn’t sort out the shortage even a year. I ended up building a high end PC instead and have no intention of buying any playstation at this point.
I don’t understand the downvotes on this comment. -9 at the time of this note.
Are there Sony owned Reddit bots that auto downvote anything that even remotely makes Sony look bad?
I think you got boo’d because the shortage is because of the chip and supply shortages, but also just wanted to salute you for building a good PC. That’s like my ultimate goal and it’s an awesome achievement.
It’s funny to me how I own and use a PS5 controller but will probably never own a PS5.
Noting special. Bunch of my buddies have PS5 remotes because they’re just a nice gamepad for the PC.
They’re also used to control professional equipment. Just ask a couple of billionaires who live in the north Atlantic.
No wonder Xbox is scared of Sony.
Mismatch error: console compared with a company.
So… what are the go-to games? I bought a PS4 pro during Covid and I’m not sure it’s worth the upgrade just yet.
not worth imo, have it and it collects dust
Try hogwarts, it takes couple of weeks to finish but it’s really amazing and you can explore alot of things. The level of detail is great! Sadly once you finish it it’s limited.
The first game I played when I got my PS5 was Ghost of Tsushima and was absolutely blown away. I then played Spider-Man, the Miles Morales version, then RE8. The lack of loading screens, seamless gameplay, and visuals are incredible. I wish I had a better comparison to give you but I was coming from a regular slim PS4 to 5 so the change to me was pretty massive. With the games interacting with the controller in a new way with haptics I felt much more immersed. I’d say it’s significant in an upgrade but I’m unsure of the practical processing power of the pro. From testing I’ve seen the pro 4 still had loading screens whereas I’ve yet to experience any on the 5.
My immediate answer to this is always Returnal and Demon Souls remake (if you’re into those games).
Returnal was way more fun and interesting than I thought it was going to be before I started
All PS4 games, especially remastered, are insane. I bought mine 2 weeks ago and have only played a handful of games. The only true PS5 game I’ve played is Cyberpunk. I’m playing through TLOU2 right now and it blows my fucking mind. What I’ve learned, because I was in your boat thinking the same thoughts, just grab the machine and don’t worry about the games. You’ll find what you like. Let the machine knock your socks off. (I’m coming from Xbox One X and PS4 Pro)
Interestingly, TLOU2 is a ps4 game with ps4 graphics (and yes, it looks amazing!), but the graphics aren’t improved one bit on ps5. The only difference is the fps being unlocked to 60fps. It was amazing what naughty dog could pull off graphically on PS hardware. Hell TLOU1 was a PS3 game.
TIL. Wow!
I still have our PS4 for when my kiddo and I wanna play creative mode (if we’re doing BR, we just do split screen on our tv).
The first time I booted it and played on it, the difference between quality was insane. Couldn’t believe the difference.
mine bricked and it is a paperweight collecting dust :(
I saw one for sale for $150 that the guy said wouldn’t boot. I guess he got it to work soon after posting because he more than doubled the listing price and didn’t respond to me.
I imagine they’d unbrick it for like $100. Better than nothing I guess. You could always get it fixed and then sell it for like $300.
Cue Tina Turner’s Simply the Best.
I think tiktok has made gaming and animation that much more popular. A clip goes viral or enough people just talk about your game people are going to play it. And i think playstation has benefited from this most from games like GOWR and especially Spiderman 2 clips. And the algorithm will ensure the people who like your stuff will see it
That’s interesting, I think it has little or nothing to do with tiktok.
I think tiktok made you write that comment.
Or maybe that is what tiktok wants me to think…
Did it? That’s weird, I’ve never been on tiktok.
I’m curious, what about these PS5 sales make you say that?
It is doing well, but for me it is a fifth iteration of a highly successful series of gaming consoles. Outside of the early days of the PS3 Sony has comfortably shown they know how to ship a ton of PlayStation consoles.
I’m curious about the numbers for people who own both systems, what is their general usage numbers between the two systems. I have both, and I hardly ever play the Xbox. I only bought it to play some older exclusives and High on Life through game pass any NEW game, and I’ll probably just play it on the PS5. 🤷🏽♂️
I’ve got all 3, never use the Xbox, always use the ps5, and my kids mostly use the switch.
And I’ve still never seen one in a store.
