Like c’mon, I like the deck but I bought it February this year, and another objectively better version came out 9 months after, when Valve was of the opinion that a new deck would have come out like in another couple years.
It’s feels like a freaking joke ngl.
I really hope Valve will do it, especially because they are asking almost 700 euros!
(I bought the old one for 531 euros for comparison).
Nah most ppl who want to upgrade will just buy the new one. Its too niche of a product unlike amazon fire sticks and tablets where they can do trade ins.
I disagree. the steam deck is a lot less niche then people think. It sold around 3 million units in it’s first year. comparing that to the switch which sold 13 units in it’s first year it doesn’t seem niche.

That’s not how it works man. Most retailers count on this happening to people, and the tech obsessed consumers go out and buy another one.
Just look at Nintendo, they are saying they aren’t planning on releasing a new product soon. Which is obviously a lie, and it’s meant to attract buyers to continue buying the current system.

It’s not a consumers right that a company releases a new product and gives an option for a discount. Your best option is to sell the one you have. Take the money and buy the new one. People have been doing that for years with cell phones.
That is not so much the point. And cell phone companies do trade ins too all the time. They do it because recycling the units and parts as are worth it to them to give small discount on getting you to buy into the newest model.
No one is expecting a whole new unit for nothing. They are just hoping to get a minor discount in exchange and helping keep it out of a landfill.
You bought a tech item a year after it came out, and almost a year later a slightly, teeny bit better one came out. That’s normal time frames in the tech world my dude
And not to get too philosophical here but I would encourage all those with buyers remorse to be happy with what they own. Yes, if I could snap my fingers and turn my SD into the new version I would, but the regular SD is perfectly fine and up until 12 hours ago was basically the best on the market
Also think of this… surely valve will upgrade the chip inside within the next probably 2 years. Once there is 50-100% gains to be made it will be unavoidable. And then there you will be, with a regular OLED steam deck you just barely bought when you could have that shiny new one…
Enjoy your perfectly adequate deck, wait a little bit longer and before you know it the real steam deck 2 will be here and you can upgrade then
Steam Deck 2 will be a huge improvement I imagine. Is the OLED tempting as hell to me? Yes, but I also realize that a few years will pass by without me even really feeling it.
I’m skipping out on this revision myself, but I’m happy for all the other people who are getting the OLED.
This wisdom is exactly what is needed. 30-50% improvement, hold steady. Wait for the improvement beyond that and get a solid amount of time with your current Deck. With more companies now gaming for the market niche SD moved to fill, there is more incentive for them all to push further developments. Give it another year or two.
Valve wouldn’t have done a sale and announced they will phase out the LCD Deck models if they planned on buying back those same models…
They have no intention of making a trade-in program.
A lot of the internals are the same and can be recycled/repurposed. I wouldn’t discount a trade in service just yet

I think it’s possible, but I wouldn’t do it. Regardless, I was considering buying it for all of other changes as well. But I changed my mind and I’ll wait for it to be on discount. Fuck Valve…I thought they were a decent company.
