I agree that the new option will be $150 additional compared to the upgrading the SSD myself. I would just add to the list of benefits you had (screen/battery) also the fact of not having to actually do the upgrade (which is quick and will go well but still…)

I have received a reply from Steam Support and they have offered:
once received to return it (they will provide the information) - this will allow a full refund on my original payment method. I can then buy the new deck when it comes out
get a refund to my steam wallet and repurchase the 64gb with that refund at the new lower price. The difference will remain in my steam wallet for future purchases, but I do not have to send the deck back
It all seems fairly reasonable, you could argue that even in case of 2 it would be great to have the refund applied to my original payment method but I will end up buying some games so it’s probably fair to use the wallet option.
