You dont want your console to look like something designed by someone from the 1960s who took their inspiration from a tube TV and the Jetsons image of the future?
I wouldn’t say it was gorgeous, but it had a good look. IMO, the 2 and 4 were their best takes.
I appreciate the bold take of the PS5, but what I hate it the sheer inability to walk away from a design where it’s clear that an aspect of it wasn’t able to be incorporated into it (cough disc drive cough) so they just gave it a tumor on its side.
The modular drive should have always been part of the design too. There’s no way that wasn’t though of before the slim take and it makes so much sense from a production standpoint.
PS1 was also a great design, just very of its time. Consoles used to sit on the floor, plugged into the front inputs on TVs. They were set up when they were needed, by mostly by children, and then put away (mostly by parents). Durable plastic with a top-loading disc drive and big friendly buttons made sense.
The genius of the PS2’s design was Sony saying “no, gaming is here to stay, I live in the entertainment center full time now.” Nintendo didn’t get the memo that generation.
I think that’s what it needs to be though. Seeing as it usually is in the focus of the room next to the tv. They should have made it subtle and non offensive. And black
The OG ps4 was a GORGEOUS design. And then we got this shit.

I don’t know why, but I love this comment. Thanks for it.
The OG ps4 was boring. Just a generic black box.

I’d like to remind you of the whole power button and eject button fiasco with the PS4.
I always press both, because I never remember which one did what
I liked having my disc randomly eject when I was playing a game. Kept things unpredictable.
Gorgeous is generous, it looks like a big modem.
To me peak design was the pancake PS2. OG PS3 was also a pretty lookin gal.
Honestly in terms of design the PS3 slim takes the cake really. Then they did the Super Slim which was ugly as shit.
The 2nd PS3 design was nothing but class
lol it looked like a slanted vcr.
