I’ve been rocking the SE2020 since launch.
I’ve watched every release since then come and go, including the recent iPhone 15 and there is never enough of a reason to jump up.
The newer models, particularly the redesign that came with the 12 initially peaked my interest, being somewhat of a callback to my favourite device, the iPhone 4.
However, they are simply far too big and chunky.
I’m not a social media influencer and I’m not a photographer, so the insane power gains, fancy displays and high end cameras are completely lost on me.
I’m desperate for an iPhone that isnt quite as outdated as the SE but also slim and light, with “true” all day battery life, unlike the lofty claims Apple makes.
From what I can see, the closest thing I’m going to get out of the more recent releases is going to be a refurbished or second hand iPhone 11 Pro, with a fresh battery.
It’s the smallest and lightest of the bunch, with a very good reputation for holding its charge.
What do you guys think?
The 11pro is six months older than your SE2020 and has the same A13 chip. Not an upgrade at all.
Considering your explanation, I would get the SE2022. It is a huge upgrade in the chip dept, that A15 will last well into 2027 with full software updates, and beyond with security updates. Everything you’re used to, but with a much improved processor, 10% larger battery by default coupled with a more efficient processor brings easily 20%+ better battery life, cheap to repair if broken since parts are “outdated” yet widely available for literally pennies, and A15 adds great functionality to the 12MP main camera making its photo capability still viable in 2023. The addition of 5G means you won’t be on life support for a cellular connection any time in the next ten years.
I just ordered two of the iPhone SE 2022 models, the rough straight talk’s Black Friday sale ($49 for the phone when you buy one month of prepaid service, and then wait 61 days for it to be automatically unlocked).
As a 14 pro max owner, from previous 13 pro max, I am strongly considering using the SE2022 as my daily driver for a while to see if it’s really all that limiting. I’ve been wanting to go back to a smaller phone for a long time. My wife will likely be using the other SE2022 as her daily driver and selling her 13 mini, as the square design is too uncomfortable for her small hands.
The SE 2022 has the same internals as the iPhone 13 lineup. It’s a beast of a phone, bottled in an older chassis that provided excellent repairability and a powerful phone at a ridiculous price (if you grab the $49 deal!)
Do you have to renew with ST after 30 days, then again to hit 61 days for it to unlock?
Mine is still perfectly fine. I don’t plan on replacing it for at least the next 3 or 4 years and that’s only if it breaks.

The big reason that’s stopping me from upgrading into the numbered iPhones are the size (and the price, but I can just collect more money tbh). I will never use a phone larger than the iPhone SE, ever.
My 12 pro has been great for battery as well but I turn off the 5g since it kinda sucks in my area. I usually end the day with 50% and 3hrs sot
On my SE an inch of the screen on right side from top to bottom not responding , anyone having such an issue?
I’m waiting to see if there’s a new SE this spring. If there isn’t, probably another 8-12 months with the 2020.
PWM is limiting my phone choices
I upgraded from an Iphone 7 go an Iphone 15 PM recently and the battery life is definitely the biggest difference. I also have a 2020 SE I use at home to play certain games that my 7 can’t (due to nonstop crashing), and the biggest difference I’ve noticed between my 15 PM and the 7/SE is the substantial battery life improvement and zero latency/smooth user experience. I’ve been using this tiny little Iphone 7 for the last 7 years and it took me no more than 2-3 days to get used to the size of the Iphone 15 PM. For a phone of this size, the 15 PM is actually pretty light and has been amazing to use so far. I will admit the 7/SE is more comfortable to hold though. But it’s really not that big of a deal
My mom has that phone and the reason she has an upgraded is because it still works fine. That’s usually what triggers most people to update… You would need to be compelled to upgrade because you’re not getting what you need out of your current device.
Although I was tempted to grab her the iPhone SE 2022 now that it’s on sale at Walmart for so cheap.

Apple certified refurbish section got them, not sure if 13 mini but I saw 12 mini few days ago for less than 400 gbp in uk so im pretty sure they’re also available in us
I bought my SE on release with the intention of it lasting five years. Three years in and it looks good to last. This is my first iPhone, I moved from Android because I wanted to get away from the constant upgrading. Spending money every couple of years just to have a supported phone.
Spend a little more for an iPhone for better support.
You might wanna look at Samsung newest A series or even the s23 Fe for the same price as an iphone SE + you get the same amount of longevity
I love my se 2020. I love everything about it. I don’t know what I will do when it breaks. I want a phone exactly like this one
There’s rumors about an SE 4 with an iPhone 14 design and a single 48 MP camera. It’ll be an interesting device
