I’m getting a Deck finally now that the OLED model is releasing and battery life is significantly improved. The hardware has such good potential for so many games but I honestly have no idea what I’m actually going to use it for lol.

The best ideas I can come up with are basically every Bethesda RPG, Bioshock, turn based JRPG (like Octopath), and Halo. Idk if any of those are really like must have games that are system sellers. Maybe I’m just picky. I dunno.

My question would be what are things you use your Deck for? Either top 3 or top 5 would be nice. It’s like a half “what do you do” and half “what should I do” with the Deck. What is the game(s) that made the purchase worth it?

Since you mentioned turn based jrpgs, I would recommend Persona 5. It’s a great game that runs and looks amazing on the steam deck. It has a lot of style, and the UI uses a lot of red and black that I imagine would look incredible on an OLED screen.

I really like 2D games on the SD. Hollow Knight is an amazing and gorgeous metroidvania. Shovel Knight is a retro styled platformer. Cassette Beasts is a monster tamer that has a ton of innovations and twists on the standard pokemon formula.

More recently, I have been enjoying Risk of Rain Returns, which is a brutal but fun rogue like.

This past week I just tried out Vampire Survivors and got immediately hooked on it. But other than that one:

    • Knights of the Old Republic II. Runs perfectly.
    • Cyberpunk
    • Baldur’s Gate 3 (although bad Act 3 performance)

Broforce Vampire survivor Need for speed heat

If your getting the OLED steam deck I’d be really tempted to get “Ori and the will of the wisps” and play through that in there. Already a beautiful game and in the OLED it should look stunning. Also just a super fun game.

Honestly I’ve been playing a ton of Wizard101 on the deck, and there’s a guide to play older accounts for those veteran players too! The community preset is perfect and runs super smooth.

Bethesda rpgs. Modded skyrim and fallout 4 on the go are pretty nice. They both play really well with some 50ish fps areas in Boston.

Basically any ps4 era game you love will run perfectly fine on the deck in my experience
