Especially with the 3.5 preview/beta update I’ve been seeing a lot of people say that the stuff CryoUtilities does is wack and doesn’t really work, and one dude even went as far as to call it a placebo in a post where I mentioned it.

Does stuff like the swap file and swappiness, amongst other things, really boost performance and all that? Or is it just a waste of time and (storage) space?

Main points for CryoUtilities are: *Less stutters; *Less crushes; *Higher lowest framerate; *Extension of ssd lifecycle.

It’s not a magical fps boost, but rather a way to make gaming experience on steam deck somewhat smoother.

It’s the micro stutters that kill me. FPS is locked at 60 or whatever, but the frame drops still feel like they’re there.

Does it require admin creds to install? I think I lost my password…

Edit. It does. One more reason to buy the OLED!

You can very easily change the forgotten password, you do NOT need to buy a new steam deck just for that.

I used this because I forgot it myself before, and it helped me change it:

Of course in retrospect, I definitely misrepresented saying it is very easy, especially since I’m really into computers. But it still is fairly simple, although it did require some additional devices you may not have if the steam deck is your only device.

Came here to say this. I think people get too wrapped in “number go higher”. When the handhelds are more about efficiency, ease of use and out of box experience. I see it as icing on the cake. It’s not essential, but I also don’t enjoy many cakes without icing.
