This is me, also. I’m 40 and so getting up there, and LOVED video games as a kid, back when they were really rudimentary.
Having lost interest in the endless cycle of CoD’s and whatever Fortnite is, and gotten over the initial ‘wow’ of VR, sitting playing a night stage on Dirt Rally 2, with its dynamic lighting flashing through the trees, and rain effects reflecting off the ground, on a bloody handheld, just blows my mind.
This is what I’m excited for. I have two docks and the Deck is my main gaming device. I’m going to start to hate the one I cant wake from afar.
My ParcelForce tracking just says; 21/11/2023 15:10 General Servicing. Ordered around 7pm on the 16th.
I can’t take it any more. I CANT SPEND ANOTHER DAY WITH THIS LCD BULLSHIT DEVICE!!!
Ordered mine with an hour of release and it’s at this stage now, too.
Thoughts and prayers.
I just wanted to say good luck, we’re all counting on you.
I honestly think that the OLED Deck is going to be the silver bullet that solves ALL of my problems.
I did think, previously, that it was going to be that really expensive jacket I bought last month. Or the new bike. I thought they would solve everything, but they didn’t.
I once thought it was going to be that set of headphones I really wanted, but they didn’t, and so I went ahead and bought a DAC and Amp to compliment them.
Lo and behold, they solved nothing. Even when I bought those AirPod Pro Max’ for hi-fi on the go… only minimal improvement (possibly because the release of the iPhone 15 had rendered my 14 Pro Max obsolete).
But, you know, when I go to bed at night, I really do think - this time - that having immersed myself in that gorgeous OLED screen for ten minutes before is going to take my mind right off that empty savings account, mounting car repair bills, and loaded credit card debt.
I just know it. This time 🤞
Is it me or is everyone on this sub buying an OLED that they can only just afford?
You’re not missing anything, it still runs. Although I only today opted for Proton Experimental and it allowed 800p resolution, where as previously it was 720.
V-Sync on. Then play around with your graphics a little and you should be hitting 60 everywhere.
Mine keeps looking up at me, as if to say “remember all the fun times we had?”
To which I answer “no”. And I’m hoping it’ll just leave.
It’s not THAT easy! Not unless there’s another method out there?
It’s the micro stutters that kill me. FPS is locked at 60 or whatever, but the frame drops still feel like they’re there.
Does it require admin creds to install? I think I lost my password…
Edit. It does. One more reason to buy the OLED!
I was thinking on Thursday night, how nice it would be to have two Decks - one upstairs and one downstairs - but then almost laughed out loud to myself at the thought of spending over £1k on a gaming device that isn’t a PS5 and a 4k TV (or even upgrading my 1080 GPU to something modern). It would be outright insanity, especially given my Deck isn’t even a year old.
Then I saw the announcement on Friday morning and set aside another £569 for the 1gb model.
Quite frankly I already look at my peasant spec 512 LCD with disgust.
I just want it to leave.
I’ve had my Deck only 12 months and I am absolutely upgrading.
It’s the best gadget I’ve ever bought. By a mile. And I’ve had ALL kinds of gadgets!
Just talked myself into one and then “Not available in your (UK) country”
Ahhhhhgh!
Good stuff. I’m happy to plod through 1 if 2 works well enough.
ME1 works fine but I’m finding the frame rate inconsistent.
Indoors, 60 but stuttering to 58. Outdoors, 40 - 49.
I’ve set it to 40 locked when undocked, but it still drops and stutters to 37 when changing scenes.
Docked, the frame limit on the Deck is released and you e only the in game framerate limiters, which is 30 or 60.
I feel like this and my OLED is arriving tomorrow.
I’m sure it’s going to be an upgrade, but since the update I’m not sure it’s going to be a £600 one… (which it’s near enough to, in the UK).
