I am using my S10+ for 4 years now and I have no reason to get a new phone apart from the lack of updates. It feels old without updates, if you understand what I mean. What is a big downside for not getting any updates anymore? Security maybe?

Coming from Apple my old IPhone was supported for what felt like ages.

I could spend the money on a new phone but I don’t really see the point. I don’t want to spend it just so I can get new updates. The S10+ just feels perfect, it’s crazy to me how good the battery is + performance and everything else. The phone also just looks good. It has no fault apart form regular updates.

Could you maybe list some reason why I should get a new phone or why I should still wait.

I went from an s9 to an s20 and used my s9 for 5 or 6 years. It’s a backup phone now.

Still can’t get used to the s20 screen keyboard, had the phone about a month

    >Coming from Apple my old IPhone was supported for what felt like ages.

Looking at my serviceable iPhone6 that Apple shut down(Safari has outdated and not updating certificates, the machine has been remotely slowed down, apps won’t open), I cried after reading your words.

I think that as long as the phone works, it’s fine to use it. You don’t store Pentagon computer passwords on your phone, and banking apps usually have two-factor authentication. Many vendors(Samsung) are famous for sending out cosmetic updates over a long period of time. It seems like you’re updating, but in reality the updates bring unnecessary garbage into the system.

I only upgraded from my S10 cause I finally got cute and went caseless and no later than a week later dropped my phone off a ladder. Only then did I pull the trigger cause Verizon did a crazy promo where I essentially paid $20 out of pocket for the s23.

I’ll tell you now, my S10 ran fine, and I don’t feel it’s a major difference now on the s23. As others said, the lack of updates shouldn’t be the deciding factor, only upgrade if/when performance drops.

I’m pretty sure pound for pound the 23 line is still only marginal upgrade over the 10 line, plus/minus which features are subjectively most important to you!

My s10+ so runs alright but it lags so much and battery life is still crap after replacement.

I’m keeping it around for backup.

I am using an S10+. I think the security updates stopped about 6 months ago. I love this phone it has a headphone jack and expandable memory. I will probably be getting a new phone within the next 6 months because an app I use for my hearing aids works better with Android 13 and this phone stopped getting updates at Android 12.

My battery life is still good.

I’d say it’s time for you, mostly because you don’t have 5g, but honestly if you’re fine with it you can go until you’re not… you just are not getting security updates and apps may stop working eventually. (stop working as in be not compatable with newer versions of the app)

I don’t know, I use my s10e for 3.5 years already, and, yes, while I no longer get updates, it still preforms good as a phone, and its only issue is battery life. I’d say keep it as long as you want.

For app compatibility you’ll be fine for 6 years + how many years of OS updates your model got. For security just don’t install app from outside the play Store, and inside the Play Store don’t use unpopular apps.

I still have my s10plus 4+years now (since it first came out) battery is a bit weak I admit but it does charge 2 to 3 times a day which I don’t see as being completely awful. However, I do have a terrible burn in that recently started to show at the top of my screen. The status bar got burned in idk why and I can fairly see Mt keyboard as well. I really hope it doesn’t get worse because I love this phone and want to keep holding onto it for as long as it can survive 😭😭

I use a S10e as my second phone. Yes, there are like 2 OneUI 5.1 features that I miss, but that in no way makes the phone obsolete. If the phone still fits your needs go and keep it as long as you want. Don’t mess with apps outside the Play Store and suspicious sites (or use Samsung browser with AdBlock) and you should be fine regarding security.

Same for me, still with my S10+ and I’m happy so far, but looking for s24 ultra next year, because battery life becomes nad and my device usually hot af, so i think it’s the time to change.
