I am using my S10+ for 4 years now and I have no reason to get a new phone apart from the lack of updates. It feels old without updates, if you understand what I mean. What is a big downside for not getting any updates anymore? Security maybe?

Coming from Apple my old IPhone was supported for what felt like ages.

I could spend the money on a new phone but I don’t really see the point. I don’t want to spend it just so I can get new updates. The S10+ just feels perfect, it’s crazy to me how good the battery is + performance and everything else. The phone also just looks good. It has no fault apart form regular updates.

Could you maybe list some reason why I should get a new phone or why I should still wait.

Is it safe to use banking app with no security patch installed in months? Probably yes but I always get a new phone once security patches are out.

This is the thing. Depending on the security release cycle, people may only be getting security updates every 6 months or yearly, after a while. Some people may be getting the monthly.

The apps however, especially from Banks, are updated to all the time and until that app says it’s not compatible with your version of Android, usually 8-10 years, you should be ok.

System security patch is however do close zero day and other exploits that keep your phone from being hijacked by unknown applications or websites. As long as people aren’t going out of their way to download nefarious software accidentally, it should be fine.

The “should be okay” says it all, I’d rather spend few hundred bucks than risk my bank account breach or attack of any form.

That’s my thinking, too. Once your personal security is breeched, retrospect and regret take over.
