  • Depends on what games and what performance you expect. I was playing docked to TV when I played stuff with my son, and it worked well. I have/had a full powered gaming PC in another room. I ended up building a second PC for the TV room because while the Steam Deck experience was good enough for a lot of games, I wanted higher frame rates (1080p@60Hz plasma TV so don’t need much).

As others have said, LCD models are worth it right now, especially if you’ll be playing portable a little.

This is talking me out of getting one. I wished it had an OLED last year when I got it. At this point I don’t use it enough and will wait until either a more powerful model or lower priced model (256GB?) or used market to have good deals. Definitely won’t be this year.

I am more considering getting an OLED portable monitor because I’d be able to use it with a variety of devices including Steam Deck. I understand that wouldn’t be used completely handheld but it would fit my portable use case (usually in a car or bed and sitting up when I’m using my portables). Considering I need to wear readers for handheld display close to my eyes, having a larger display further away is better. I There have some good deals lately but seems to be flaws so I haven’t pulled the trigger. I have a 15” LCD portable monitor right now.

I have a 512GB LCD and I say OLED. I haven’t seen one in person but if its better than Switch OLED’s screen (which I have) then it is definitely the way to go. They also improved a lot of other things in the OLED model besides the screen (improved battery life being a big one).

If you do go with LCD, you can find lower prices buying used, though maybe you want the warranty.

I’m thinking of selling my 512GB and getting an OLED model.
