Definitely use a USB-C dock with HDMI to your TV. Streaming introduces horrible latency issues if you even get it working. Then you can use a Bluetooth controller (really, most modern controllers support it) and play your Deck from the couch.

My desktop is a R7 5800X / RTX 4080. I use it more than my cheap 64GB Steam deck I upgraded to 1TB, but I still like my Steam Deck. I also have a R9 5900HS / RTX 3070 laptop I used to use for gaming while on the go. I barely use the laptop for gaming now, and the Deck has more or less replaced it except when I need to work remotely.
I decided I will sell my LCD Deck to buy the OLED Deck, as the battery life improvement alone is a big deal. The screen never bothered me, but an improved screen is appreciated. The Bluetooth improvement is also important to me since I use headphones, and lower latency will help. I bought a 512GB model I will just upgrade to 1TB again.
I like Asus, I really do. I’ve purchased a used Zephyrus G15 back in 2021 that’s still going strong, and a used RTX 4080. Both were registered by their previous owners, and Asus support quickly helped to de-register the product (Once I provided the order details) so I could register for the warranty. Both have served me well.
That said, I can’t bring myself to buy an ROG Ally simply because they atrocious quality control problems. Just check the ROG Ally sub. Best Buy is inundated with returns too.
On paper, the ROG Ally is excellent. In reality, it’s a first generation model that has a critical design deficiency (SD card next to heatsink, causing it to fail or kill cards) and several components have a nasty tendency to fail (Screens, triggers) which leads me to think Asus simply didn’t test the handheld long enough before bringing it to market.
I’ll stick with my Steam Deck.
I think my only issue between the 12/2022 LCD model I used to own (sold on eBay) and the new 512GB OLED model are the rattling buttons. It’s more of an annoyance than anything. I have a feeling they need to be worn in a bit.
My sticks seem tight and the rest of the rig is more or less identical. The clickier Steam and … Buttons feel like a direct upgrade as does the new D-pad.
