I actually purchased a car gps tracker, modified the tracker slightly by removing the shell. And then embedded it to back side/unscrew back plate of steam deck.
As others have pointed out:
The likely bottleneck is your A2 Sandisk SD card. Also, if your internal SSD is nears maxed out storage, you’ll also see speed drop. As general rule of thumb, try keep at least 15-20% of your usable storage space reserved.
So if you have 64GB steam deck - reserve 12GB free, 256 - 40~50GB free. 512GB - 100GB free. You’ll see a noticeable improvement. This is especially true when a larger game been installed or updated requires space to be reserved and your SD card don’t have enough space. The initial reservation of space is done on your SSD
