I don’t feel as bad about not getting to buy an OLED anymore lol colors look so much better with this latest update!
That’s great to hear! It makes me wonder what was stopping this update from happening earlier?
Even if you already have vibrantdeck?
I play it docked and it even breathed new life into my monitor! I had no idea it could look so different
100%, got so surprised!
Will this new setting help with the whole etched glass thing on the OLED as well? It’s already a non-issue for me as I bought an OLED but if this adds an extra layer of “just do this to fix it” then that makes me even more excited to see these settings on the OLED.
I was really impressed after I installed the update last night! Vibrant Deck helped but this is so much better. I only wish it had been like this from the start lol. I won’t even get to enjoy it for long before my OLED version comes in. Ah well, whoever gets my old one will get to enjoy it :P
I’ve just updated but not going to play until later today. Do I need to actively change any settings to notice a difference or is the default now better?
You’ll notice a dramatic difference the moment you reboot after the update!
I didn’t even notice a difference
Maybe undervolt.
Default is better and if you want to adjust further you can do it in display settings. New default settings are pretty good I barely adjusted them.
The default is already much better, but you will probably want to go to Settings -> Display -> Adjust Display Colors and set the Color Temperature value to 6500 K.
Am I weird for liking it at 11000k?
Yes, but hey, you do you.
It’s on a good level by default for me. After the update I seriously thought they changed the homescreen or something. Like, I knew something was different, and better, but couldn’t place my finger on it. Like when someone gets a new haircut and it takes you a bit to notice.
Cobalt Core is even more gorgeous now.
There was never a real good reason from lcd Deck owners to change to Oled. The problem was how Valve scalped people that got an LCD version 1 or 2 months ago without the knowledge of the new hardware.
Lemme guess you think valve is anti consumer
Did the update break deck loader?
No, but some tweaks available through the CSS plugin need to be updated to accommodate some of the UI changes from 3.5.
I had some of the css loader stuff change when I updated, which someone else brought up in this post.
Decky itself isn’t broken, but I think a of the individual apps are. I can no longer choose to browse new artwork for any of my games right now, for example.
Powertools plugin is sort of broken I think, my deck stops charging on the charge limit I set even if the Deck is off. Uninstalled it for now and remedied the charging by going to battery storage mode.
Valve are truly MVPs. I feel like every other company would never time an update like this because they’d want ppl to buy OLED. I know their business model is to make money from software sales but damn…just love to see it going down like this! <3
They truly are. And the fact that they made all these moves so stealthily around the release of the lenovo go is insane.
I mean this should have been in ages ago… We’ve had to use a decky plugin for this lol
This was available before with plugin where you can change saturation. They just added, nothing new, this was already available …
The thing that publicly traded companies don’t understand is that these things that valve do on the surface seem like they are biting themselves in the ass is what actually makes me choose to give them my money over Lenovo, Asus, Epic etc.
I preordered my 512gb deck day one and will keep it forever, and I will absolutely buy Steam Deck 2 and Index 2 and only buy my games through steam.
Index 2 is what is keeping me from buying the Zucklefuck Quest 3
It will exist one day. It has to.
Same here. I’ll keep my deck forever. Once it can no longer game (which I doubt), it would be the perfect little SSH client or a tiny server. I’m pretty sure someone either already has or will design a 3D printed case to make it a headless server.
I always find myself going back every couple years to the same old games. Halo1-3, ninja gaiden, Arkham city, Half Life 2, Skyrim fallout bioshock etc.
The deck will always be able to play them and there are tons of old games I never played and the deck will always be able to play those too. And older games look much better and sharper on a small screen than on a 1440/4K 27”+ screen.
is this in stable or preview channel? i dont keep up with updates too much
It’s been in preview for almost two months but just hit stable.
Now I’m just sitting here waiting for my deck to update. Nothing else to do today.
Are there any comparisons out there of the LCD before and after this update?
Its so much better its insane
Just played some elden ring to test it out and was getting 40+ fps on medium settings and Temps didn’t go above 85 c.
Looks beautiful, plays beautiful. Was thinking about the upgrade to OLED but I’ll just wait until there is a steam deck 2
