However it’s becoming less of an issue with modern ssd’s that incorporate hybrid caches and faster NAND. As long as the drive has a large enough static cache to absorb most of what you throw at it or fast enough NAND to at least be bearably fast it’s not that big of a deal. You just have to know the NAND’s limitations. Even drives like the crucial p3 are fine as long as you understand eventually writes will slow down to 80MB/s or so.

For secondary storage it’s less important but I would still try to leave some free space on OS drive for fast swap and temp file performance

Yeah I guess it’s honestly not that bad, just takes time to get used to the feel. a more legitimate gripe would be overall quality and mushiness of the keys on their cheaper options.

They don’t share any pcie lanes - card gets 8 and SSD gets 4. Mobo needs to support single slot bifurcation.

It can make backups simpler if you have limited time or storage space on the target drive, otherwise can’t think of much of a reason to these days.

I guess the bigger question you should be asking is “why do I feel like only Apple is held to this standard?” Is it confirmation bias of the media you choose to consume? It it their hardware’s ubiquity, cost and blatant anti-repair approach or a combination of all those factors? Possibly.

Unfortunately not many articles I can immediately find that specifically discuss what some of the improvements are that allow for higher voltage charging aside from generally better anode, cathode and seperator materials and/or improved electrolyte.
