  • dang Victus have dogshit quality tbh. And i don’t know why do people get 4050 in laptop when 3060 exists for lower price giving almost same performance, and mobile 3060 TI variant actually performs better with same price as 4050 laptops have. Better specks and lower price? Worse quality. You’ll be fine if your Victus would be stationary and opened all the time on desk. Other usage cases won’t lead to last it long enough

  • It’s discrete gpu. Equivalent of video card that PC usually use. Laptops have integrated gpu and some of them have discrete gpu too. Integrated uses less power, and have less performance but it’s enough for basic tasks or light gaming. As for dGPU, it uses more power, needs better cooling systems and gives better gaming performance. 2-in-1 laptops is still laptops and you will use it like a laptop ~ 80% of time. There is some laptops like Microsoft Surface with keyboard attachment but modern models are hella expensive. Yes, those laptops runs windows 11. As for android - there is none. But 2-in-1 chromebooks exists and they are quite interesting if you mostly draw, do paperwork, notes, watch youtube, etc simple tasks. They usually support usf styluses and have quite good battery life. But still choise must depend on software you get used to and use every day

  • Dang, pitty to tell about, but there is no new 2-in-1 device in those pricerange that can run games and have good build quality materials. You can get 800-1100$ gayming laptop but it will have meh build quality, but you can get cool 2-in-1 without dGPU. Something like YOGA Thinkpads, HP Spectre/Elite 360 or Asus Vivobook Slate/Zenbook S Flip, Samsung Galaxy Book2 Pro 360 totally will satisfy you. When it comes to convertable there is always portability over performance (Asus ROG Flow X13 flip exists, but it’s too expensive for now) so you must concider that as a fact. For sure you may use dGPU docking for gaming at home if your laptop will have thunderbolt or USB 4 interface or if it’s gaming laptop - additional touch panel/drawing tablets

  • bold of you to assume what a student’s workload might look if you have no background on them <3

if you have time for things like this posts so there is no load for sure. Chose whatever you like if it runs software you actually need. But keep in mind that most of software on arm macbooks are backported from x86 architecture and still works like shit or even doesn’t exit

  • It’s strange that nowadays IT students can’t simply choose a laptop. A $500 laptop or a $1500 desktop can be your best solution. Performance exclude portability and battery life. Lower prices mean sacrificing performance. PErsonally, I don’t know of any ‘heavy’ programming required for university students, even in ML—it’s basic af. About battery life, well, most modern laptops can provide over 4 hours of battery life, which should enough. If you’re into ML, you probably should know the necessary software and how it works. Instead of scamming your parents for an expensive laptop, that you don’t actually need for studying, take the time to learn about the software you need and how does it work. Come back later if you still have questions

  • Don’t worry much. Critical temps for those cpu is 105°C. As for trottling mechanism… Well, modern laptops start to drop frequency when 86-98°C reached (depends on vendor config) wich is actually quite rare but still happens with extensive loads. So relax and use your laptop. Or get a good colling stand if you are concerned about. But don’t forget to clean your laptop every 6 months or even more often if you have a cat

depends on what gen is actually Slim. If it’s 2023 with 13 gen Intel CPU there probably would be LPDDR5. Moreover Lenovo will probably have larger capicity battery, more ports and better WLAN card out of the box. But HP have significantly better sound and preinstalled Windows :D. Depends on prices
