  • You can get a matte/etched screen protector (I have one on my base LCD Deck) but it will never be quite as high quality as having it built in to the screen. If you’re that concerned about damage to the screen, maybe a screen protector is the way to go (matte or not).

But I feel like the majority of the time, people will put on a screen protector and leave it on regardless of whether it has scratches or negatively affects the image quality in some other way. Most people don’t bother to swap it regularly. Still, it might be a good idea for the peace of mind, or to make a glossy screen matte or vice versa.

I’m talking about people with an LCD Deck who haven’t modified their screen. I’m seeing used 512gb Deck’s going for ~£350 on eBay (I expect that will fall somewhat). That plus $99 (not inc. shipping) for the DeckHD is pretty close to the same price as a brand new 512GB Deck OLED (£479).

It does once you realise that you have the option of selling your current Deck and upgrading to the OLED for roughly the same price and none of the risk or downsides of DeckHD (custom BIOS requirement, lower brightness).
