I’ve been banging my head against the wall trying to achieve this. I play Arkham Knight, Doom Eternal, Dead Space, and GTAV. I’m guessing it depends on the game.

Keep the external display resolution no higher than 1080. Your TV is going to upscale the image regardless and should look pretty good. I play halo infinite at 60 frames per second with it set of 1080 and it looks good. No way you’re going to get it native 4K, every time I tried the games had horrible frame-rate.

If my somewhat top of the line pc with 3700x and 6800xt can just barely do 4k 60fps how do you think a $500 dollar handheld is going to manage that?

Ok quick updates, after some helpful and hurtful feedback this is what I did. I went into settings, turned off auto select for resolution, selected 3840x2160@60, then went into the games I mentioned, selected Native under properties, then for arkham knight, went into the graphics options selected 1280x800 with AA turned off. Max FPS set to 60. Now I am able to hit 60 fps. Sometimes it drops down in the 30s depending on how much ass I’m kicking but I think it looks great. Thanks for all the help!

Has it caught fire yet? Or did it just turn directly into a melted puddle?

Depends heavily on the game, it’s a steam deck not a 300-400w GPU in a well ventilated case. Assuming you’ve got the hardware and software set up correctly, you can probably get games like Portal 2 to run at 4K60. Trying for the games you mentioned is just wishful thinking.

I have a semi-related question: Can the official dock output 4K 120hz using a DP 1.4 to HDMI 2.1 cable? I’m reading conflicting claims online about this.
