Of course they did. China doesn’t care about the rule of law, IP ownership, or really anyone or anything (apart from their own government)

Sir, Western science started after Jesuits came to east and learnt lot of eastern knowledge. As Russians point out so nicely these days, where are these rules written which you westerners so fondly refer to? Stealing each other IP is practiced everyday by everyone. It’s nothing new. And Western science nowadays is increasingly run by eastern scientists who came to west due to monetary imbalance created after looters looted everything from east and became rich. And Western politicians increasingly encourage the destruction of eastern institutions so that brain drain keeps happening.

Do your own science and no one will be able to steal. If you rely on immigration, some will be sent to steal.

That is a simplistic and misleading interpretation of history and current events with one or two good points. Middle Eastern Muslim and Greek scientists influenced Victorian-age scientists, more than anyone else, leaving a lasting impression on the modern age. Eastern brain drain has a lot more to do with a myriad of local issues such as low pay, corruption, lack of work, etc.

Corruption is everywhere, in equal amount. Middle east science came from east. Low pay is due to currency conversion, nothing else. West is in positive cycle now so brain drain happening. Brain drain is actively encouraged through various means by western politicians because they can only find MBAs in west now. This will bring in tech thiefs also. Get used to it. This tsunami will drown all MBAs. Remember Nokia phone operations? All moved to Taiwan, legally. Nothing will stay in west if MBA stays the most preferred earning medium.

No one can protect IP if mingling with others. And east really didn’t try to hide anything. West invented IP regime, especially britain and america. Germany was freely sharing knowledge till 19th century.

Learning and living or leaving is not frowned upon in east. Theft, loot, and robbery is, of physical property. Also, destruction is frowned upon.

Knowledge is lost without active sharing. IP thefts are good for humanity. Let there be more and more.

You really think IP theft is done for altruistic reasons? You can’t be that delusional. It’s done for money. So that cheap knockoffs can be cheaply manufactured in the east and sold in the west for money.

I was reading up on IP ownership and protection in China, and on paper they make it seem it’s working, but it’s an opaque process where outsiders don’t get a view of the court process and litigation of offenders.

For example, there are a huge amount of patents filed in China. The caveat? The vast majority of the patents filed in China are low quality, made in bad faith (subsidy for patent application greater than fee), not put into use. The push from the Chinese government to have foreign businesses re-file their patents in China, promising protection, seems to me like inviting foxes into a hen house. Do you really trust the Chinese gov’t to honor their word and not straight up steal your IP and tech, after decades of corporate espionage aided and abetted by their government?

It’s a part of a very twisted mentality towards outsiders. We’re barbarians and not Chinese so it’s absolutely fair for them to cheat foreigners. Moreover the cheating is baked in since childhood because winning is everything and the method to get there doesn’t matter. They even expect to be cheated if they don’t cheat first because of how fucked up socioeconomic conditions are, “honor” (the Chinese way, otherwise known as ‘Face’), and how competitive it can be.

We absolutely are NOT playing the same game with them.

But so many people here feel realize is the different values that they have, because someone was foolish enough to allow them access to it and the time to copy it then they feel entitled to it.

I learned about this sort of mindset with cheating and video games they don’t view an Aimbot as cheating because absolutely anybody can go and get one if anybody can get one then it’s fair, never mind what the company says and all the player expectations.

To them it’s fair because they could do it.

OK but imagine instead of aimbot to win a game it’s technology that can benefit humanity, advance science, speed up curing of disease, increase material abundance. If hitting all your shots in a game was analogous to benefiting humanity, then absolutely everyone should not only be allowed aimbot, but we should be encouraging people to use aimbot. Your analogy doesn’t make any sense. We aren’t talking about a zero sum video game, we are talking about scientific progress. We should want to share it with everyone in the world so that we get more progress faster for all of us.

I remember when indian government raided Huawei major telecommunications R and D center in india due to Tax evasion and money laundering back in 2020 and early 2022

Just 3 years later now 2 out of 3 major india telecommunications companies Have developed their own own 5g networking gear/ stack and equipment and locally manufactured them ,Today India uses 0%Chinese equipment in 5g and Indian telecommunications gear along with Ericsson,Nokia,Cisco have absolute control on the market

Global Times went GAGA over it and Chinese wumaos accounts blamed india saying they should not target Chinese companies and steal their IP and destroy relations with china ( IRONIC × ♾️ ) 😂

But if Chinese do it, its suddenly becomes all Good for Chinese and china 🤣

    Honestly? Good for them.

Intellectual property is good for us in the western world, as we hold all the patents. But for developing countries it’s incredibly restrictive. Not to mention the absolute ban on chip manufacturing the Chinese are subject to by the USA.

So what’s the outcome? I see a lot of racism in this thread, this isn’t a “china is going china” thing. It’s a “China is trying to develop its own industry and they will break intellectual property laws if necessary”. I mean, it’s kind of cruel to expect them to work for 20-30 years to achieve something that as humans we’ve already figured out? Idk.

Meanwhile you see the same kind of people defending AI companies that basically do the same. Lol.

Intellectual property is unfair to developing countries. Period. Also, the smartphone industry has gotten a huge boost not just thanks to apple but also thanks to china for “stealing” so they can develop the industry enough to the point where they can be at the same level or ahead.

And then you realize what they will use all this stolen technology for and also i guess you just like other governments have forgotten that china is by no means a developing country. Stop sucking chinas dick, you wont get a massive social credit boost by doing it. Your view about we as humans have figured out long ago expects the world to be a peaceful utopia which it unfortunately isnt. There is more than just political reasons as to why the restrictions to china is in place. Also just because a patent is in place doesnt restrict developing nations from making their own designs, you are just excusing stealing with a shitty argument and aren’t even looking at the whole thing realistically and live in a fantasy world that doesn’t exist.

Supposedly, according to China , China can make their own chips and doesn’t need western technology. Yet they keep stealing western technology. Like the dumb kid copying off the smart kids test. China is the country version of that dumb kid. Must be a massive embarrassment to be Chinese. A country known for thievery and unoriginality. A country full of dumb kids constantly stealing/copying. Pathetic joke of a country.

I agree with everything except the embarrassment part. In China, the ends justify the means. They don’t care if they get caught or if westerners think they should feel shameful.

Chinese mentality is that if there is a loophole or exploit or shortcut that you don’t take advantage then that’s you being stupid. Everything is basically fair game.

Could you give an example of a society that collapsed because they achieved too much success through unscrupulous means? Many of the wealthiest societies in the world presently saw their wealth and power increase due to unethical practices that were justified by the ends justifying the means. For example many European countries spent centuries taking resources from other people across the globe, and the US famously leveraged the ownership of humans as property to develop vast agricultural wealth. Modern successful countries like South Korea subjected their people to incredibly brutal work conditions with the promise that they would gain wealth for future generations (which they did).

I can’t really think of a society that collapsed due to their success coming from unethical sources

You do know that China consists of individuals, right? You do know how unintelligent this post sounds, right?

An independent hacking group stealing chip IP has nothing to do with claims from PRC that they don’t need western technology.

I’m jetlagged right now and I can’t think of a great comparison but this is like trying to compare the USA peoples to the actions of Donald Trump. Or conflate the actions of proud boys to the US government.
