Hi all,

My partner is thinking of trying out Baldurs Gate, she plays exclusively on steam deck and has no real gaming experience on anything else other than her switch.

Is the performance acceptable for someone who is very used to 30fps? I know for me it would be too much of a downgrade after playing on PC, but she doesn’t have that experience.

Thanks for any help!

Running on FSR 2.2 balanced, with everything on Low, except textures and models on Medium, 28 frames cap and TDP at 13, you get a mostly stable experience, outside of a few areas (like some parts of act 2 and 3, like the the lower city).

If you want to make it completely stable, you can cap the framerate at 24 and it should run seamlessly. Or remove the TDP cap and get more frames.

It really depends how tolerant you are of lower frames and variations. If you need a completely smooth experience to be able to enjoy, not for you then. I am ok with it, I also stream it from my PC and play it locally. Overall though, don’t think it should be Verified but definitely Playable.

It runs quite good with FSR, lot of settings to adjust acording to your needs. I dont mind 30FPS too with this kind of game so i play on mix of medium / high setings and FSR 2.2 to Ultra Quality and perfectly playeble for me with FPS cap set to 40.

I’d had a look at a few YouTube videos, but they all seemed to be prior to the few patches that were released with performance improvements.

I am fine with lower frame rates as long as they are somewhat stable. Not a lot of stuttering etc. This is sadly not the case with BG3 on Steam Deck.

Unfortunately as much as I love BG3 and the Steam Deck in my opinion the experience is ass.

Especially in Act 3. Even on my OLED model on OS v3.5 it’s just all over the place in the city of baldurs gate.

I tried it few weeks after release and it ran poorly on lowest settings with no FSR. People here tend to say that it performs fine (even fantastic lmao) until Act 3 but it’s just typical r/SteamDeck copium. I didn’t even finish starting area and didn’t want to play it anymore on the Deck. Jarring frame drops are very frequent, it’s an almost constant stutter.

Check video linked by other user. That’s BG3 experience on the Deck from.

People say it runs, it isn’t the smoothest experience on my ps5 so I have trouble believing them. Act 3 is just completely broken right now, though it’ll take you a while to get there and (hopefully) will work by then :)

OP the wonderful thing about steam and valve is you never have to ask this question so long as you buy directly from steam and not a 3rd party key seller. You have 2 hours to decide if you want to keep playing up until that mark a full refund is offered… With the updates act 3 runs above 30fps smoothly. It would take upwards of 40-50 hours to get there anyway. 40-50 hours of what I consider some of the best parts of the game. You could also go to ProtonDB, that’s where those of us who are initiated check before we get something we plan on playing on steamdeck.

To be fair, the worse performance is in Act 3 which is well past the 2 hours mark. So it’s worth asking.
