So I’ve has the original SD for 5 months and sold it. Now with the Oled remake I am really starting to have an ich to get back to on-the-go gaming. But Ally is looking nice as well with all the support Asus is providing. Of course Valve is miles ahead in terms of community and developer support but it looks like Asus is punching back.

So my question is to the people who have tried both devices and can tell objectively which do they prefer and why.

Thanks in advance

Has ASUS actually provided any sort of fix for the melty SD card issue? They acknowledged it was an issue months ago, but I haven’t heard anything about actually fixing this gigantic, immense flaw.

Yes, they have. The newer units they are shipping are with the fixed SD card

So i had the LCD steamdeck and loved it for a time and then got my hands on the Ally. The screen and speakers were so much better that I ended up switching and selling my lcd steamdeck. Now with the OLED i have switched back to the steamdeck because of two reasons. One is I really missed the pause and resume feature of the SteamDeck. The ally would crash my games a lot of times or they would not work right on resume. The other is the battery life is horrible on the ally. It’s nice to have the steamdeck again and a good battery life when playing indie games. The OLED screen for sure beats the ally. Also it seems that certain games just plain work better with the steamdeck right when you install them and with the Ally you will need to tinker with it for a bit to get the games working right. Overall after having both i would pick the steamdeck over the ally or any windows handheld.

Thank you for sharing, this is what I was asking. Crashing games if you sleep your system is not my cup of tea. And I don’t like the battery comments as well. Food for thought

I have the LCD, OLED & Ally. Bought the Legion Go last weekend and returned it the following day.

Hardly use the Ally. The battery drains so fast and the and the overall experience is ok. Getting non steam games up and running is much easier on the Ally and Legion GO but the overall experience one all the tweaking is done is mediocre.

If you do not play a lot of Windows only games the OLED is the way to go in my opinion.

As for the Legion Go it has a nice large screen but the Software is a mess. It is cumbersome and noticeably heavier than LCD. It felt just as bad as the Ally when it first came out software wise.

The OLED feels significantly light than the LCD and more comfortable than the Ally for my hands.

If you want to play older, lesser games with a better screen go Deck - if you want to play newer more demanding AAA’s then choose any Z1 extreme over the Deck.

Personally I’m going for the Go for the extra improvements & 2 x USB4 plus that whopping brilliant screen.

AS a side note - I’ve always loved my 512gb etched screen, never been dissatisfied apart from the size, always wished it was bigger for better reading of screen.

Don’t buy the Rog Ally it’s not a reliable device. Nor even a decent handheld for gaming. Everything seems nice on the specs sheet but nothing is actually ok when you really try to use it. I got one and sent it back after 4 days of constant issues. My husband had one too and sent it back too. In my usual shop they sold only 15 Ally. And 14 were returned (including our 2 Ally).

No interest in the Ally, like zero. I would love an SD OLED, but I can justify it. I’m very happy with my SD LED 512.

Got an Ally, no issues other than SD card stopped working. Loving it and can’t go back to a Deck after having full Windows. No messing about with workaround to get games running can install anything and everything without much tinkering. Armoury Crate software is really decent now it’s come a long way. Even has Gyro support now. I have a 4TB SSD thanks to the 2280 mod and loving it. The best thing 4TB SSD plus Rog Ally cost me less than a 1TB Switch OLED.

VRR is a game changer on a handheld
