That may sound weird to you, but my favorite devices are those that grew on me and became special.

Like the Nokia N900, my first Gameboy or my favorite X24/X60 thinkpads. They have served for years and have a place in my heart.

My steam deck became special too as it took this type of special place.

I will not abandon the poor thing to the siren of a lightly upgraded hardware.

We have still great gaming times to live.

I’m tempted but the more I think about it the more I think i will hold off… my personal situation is that i have a 1yr 3 month old 256 Deck that’s been upgraded to 2tb of storage internally and a 1 tb micro, the screen is the only real big improvement, the new more efficient soc and slightly better battery are nice but let’s face it everyone is mainly jumping ship for the oled panel, for me not as big a need if I want a better screen to look at on a handheld I grab rog ally with a 1080p lcd that’s vrr capable, I know it’s not oled but for a ips panel it’s quite nice. I’m sure my deck will last me till a proper deck 2 is released.

I’m curious about glare on the OLED if you’re playing outside vs the anti glare LCD.

Agreed. Couldn’t care less about the screen, 90% of my gaming has been done on the cheapest TVs I could possibly find. But being able to play newer games? I’d fork over cash for that.

Honestly I feel the same way after thinking about it for a bit. I said I might give it to a family member and now I’m like “but it’s my baby??? My baby I saved up for and played hundreds of hours on???” I feel so attached to it

I love my 256 steam deck, i got it a few months ago and spent weeks getting it all setup perfectly to my liking, the announcement of this upgraded deck doesnt make me like my current one any less, im 100% happy with it, especially for retro gaming. I understand if someone was unhappy with things about the current deck, but if someone loves their current deck, why would an announcement of a new one make them not like their current one all of a sudden

I’m not switching over because I just don’t like being an early adopter and have to deal with the bugs and what not but most importantly I like tech to age a bit so I can get the best deal possible. Got the 256 gb for $300 usd, waited and bought a 6700xt for 250 and probably gonna upgrade to a iPhone 11 soon for around 200 😂. I like modern tech but don’t have to have the latest and greatest.

If I cared about screen that much I’d just hook it up to the TV, I’m waiting for a SD 2

I want one really bad as it fixes my only two gripes about my OG 512, but in Canada it’s like $1000 with taxes so I will wait for the full Steam Deck 2.0 in a few years and hopefully the world still exists lol

      Is that 1000 CAD?

I would personally suggest the 512GB OLED Deck over the 1TB one.

Then subtract the cost of selling your current device.

But yeah, Steam Deck 2.0 is probably 2-3 years off. Hopefully with all of these improvements and more.

Yeah the limited edition is around $971 Canadian lol, I’ll wait it out unless I win the lottery this weekend 😅 it’s an amazing looking update but I can’t justify the extra. New users though are going to be super happy, I’m excited for everyone really, this success guarantees us a successor in a few years.

Haha, yeah I’m not worried about the LE to be fair. I’ll put a nice skin on it instead to make it feel mine.

I’m just hoping this means that the next Steam Deck 2 will also be OLED. I’m hoping it’s not a Nintendo situation, where they release a Switch OLED, but the next Switch is rumoured to be an LCD panel.

Not worth spending the money IMO. If there was an upgrade to the processor maybe, but not for a bit better of a screen and 10 minutes more of battery.

My deck is still new. Barely had it two months. I’m also insanely happy with it. Best purchase I’ve made in a long time.

No way am I gonna upgrade so soon. I haven’t even scratched the surface of what this bad boy can do.

Hey I feel the same way I got mine in June and I feel like this is the ultimate machine for playing games. My only gripe is the Bluetooth kinda sucks but that’s no reason to upgrade to the new one.

Also I wonder if you can drop a motherboard from the new one into the old one?

Why I’m not switching: because I already have this one and OLED isn’t enough for me to fork over hundreds. I’ll maybe consider upgrading my 64gb internal SSD soon though…
