90Hz refresh rate. Faster memory tuning (5500 > 6400 MT/s), which is a tangible performance uplift. Torx screws into metal threads for the case so you can open it up safely.

I am simultaneously ecstatic for newcomers who get to enjoy it, and feeling just a bit dunked on. At least I got one of the nice 512 cases.

The big thing for me is the improved bluetooth. I love playing couch multiplayer games, but the connections when using multiple bluetooth controllers have been spotty at best with the current deck.

Ehh. I feel like a 90hz refresh rate isn’t going to be a huge deal. Very few modern games are going to push past 60 on this device. 90hz might be handy for golden 40 setting configurations because you can probably set the refresh to 80hz, but unless VRR is on the table (I haven’t heard anything about it being possible?), a 90hz screen isn’t all that useful otherwise IMO. It might feel a little better, but I wouldn’t call it as impactful as the wifi6E or OLED itself.

And the faster memory probably isn’t going to make a huge huge difference.

Those torx screws and metal threads are sounding mighty fine though. Now I’m tempted to buy the OLED 512, swap in my 1tb drive, and give my old Deck to one of my cousins lol.

I’m the same. I’m just going to put €10 into my steam wallet every week so there is something there to pay for the Steam Deck 2 when ever it’s announced. (At least a couple of years from now.)

Because if I have handy access to it I’ll spend it on something else. Or when the time comes around to buy it I’ll talk myself out of spending it on the SD2 because either there’ll be a more pressing household expense or ill feel guilty spending that much on myself. I did the same when I got my SD1 last year. At least I know that the money I’ve put aside HAS to used for the Deck. And if I change my mind I can always use it to buy games.

If you don’t have the self control to use a savings account, what makes you believe you’ll have the self control to not spend it on games whenever something shiny comes along?

At least if you’ve got it in a savings account then it’s earning you interest and you’ve got the option to use it on something else if needed. Having the cash in your steam wallet is a waste and only benefits steam

You talk as if bank accounts give you any decent interent. A saving account give you around 0 1%-0.3% which is still nothing, best thing to do is to invest it on MF or some similar

The actual performance difference is within margin of error, according to the reviews I’ve seen.

Ok, I didn’t see the metal threads thing, that IS huge. I might actually get it now. Then when a backplate with a large heatsink to help dissipate heat is released I’ll open it up and replace it and add Hall Effect sticks.

Easier, if you want to, due to the Torx screws - but there’s now a 1TB SSD tier.

One thing that was listed in the Digital Foundry video is that they added a wake from Bluetooth feature. That right there is big for a lot of people.
