Here’s a tip, never buy Samsung appliances. If I was you, I would email their CEO in this situation. I would also post this as many places as you can, be it Samsung forums, Twitter, Facebook, etc. which hopefully annoys them till they give you a fair compensation (free replacement in your case).

Except it does. Dropping your screen resolution in software doesn’t magically change the pixel layout, all the pixels are still on.

Definitely go for the S23 Ultra (or S24 Ultra if you can wait). The S23+ as you said has a 1080p display (definitely check it out in person and see if you notice any difference) plus doesn’t have an S Pen which might be a deal-breaker for you.
