  • I have the Jsaux and I like it a lot, especially the kickstand, and how small yet protected it is in my bag. Only problem is I have kinda small hands and it turns out adding a little thickness to the device makes my thumbs less clever on the thumbsticks. I noticed this when I took the case off again and played some Tony Hawk. I was puling off manuals a lot easier without the case.

But if you have average or large hands I don’t imagine that’ll be an issue.

  • Mine went from “packaged items” to “shipped” earlier today (UK). I now have a GLS tracking number and for several hours it read as “GLS has not been handed the package” but now reads as “in transit”. It’s still in the Netherlands, but it’s good to see some movement there. I was worried the fact that it took 20 minutes of refreshing to order had slipped me into the 6-10 business days frame.

This is not complicated, I promise:

    1. This is the original Steam Deck, not the fancy new OLED. That device was not perfect.
    2. It especially wasn’t perfect over 100 software updates ago, and they certainly had their deck several major updates before I did. idk about you.
    3. Reviews have context. They aren’t just rating all things on a general scale of 1-10. Like saying the Steam Deck OLED is a 9/10 isn’t saying “well it’s good but not as good as Elden Ring, which is a 10/10, you should buy that instead!”. Every review (and therefore review score) is relative to the needs it intends to fulfil. The Playstation Portal is a device for specific people with specific needs, and the Steam Deck is for different people with different needs. And so the Portal is reviewed on a scale of “how well does it satisfy the needs of the people it is for?”. In that regard, an 8 makes sense, even if you are not one of the people whose needs it is designed to fulfil. Basically, not everything is made for you specifically.

  • I think the backlash is a bit overblown but it is rooted in a real annoyance. When it was announced yesterday, I was at my brokest I’d been in years, by circumstance. I couldn’t afford it on launch if I tried, because there’s no time for me to put a plan in place. Not everyone can just lift £500 out of their month’s earnings on a week’s notice. So I’m just hoping that these orders are fulfilled and there are enough to spare that I can get one at my convenience. But interest seems HIGH so I’m not confident that I won’t be waiting around for a while.

That’s my frustration: that us povo losers weren’t really given enough of a heads up to stand a chance. When you announce and release within a week, you’re releasing exclusively for the people who just happen to have money to burn. It feels unfair in that little way that life often does when you’re getting by.
