you could try software like libreoffice first off, that will tell you how well you would fair using the steam deck as your daily. pycharm can be found in the discover software center

PCs don’t work that way, especially since the APU is the same, a new OS can be installed decades later easily, and mostly be limited by software requirements like the amount of system RAM (unless it is something like windows 11 which requires some special chip in the hardware, but linux generally does not work like that)

I never bought my steam deck with playing handheld as a priority, I just wanted a computer I could pack in a backpack and take some where else to plug into. being able to play around with a game handheld in a few specific scenarios is just a bonus
