  • Casual gamer here. As a 1st gen 512 GB owner since summer this year, I decided against the upgrade at least for now. It would be a hassle to get a good deal for the 1st gen Deck. Plus, it’s a nice opportunity to practice self-control. We own these devices and they don’t own us. I’ve always cringed at people running and getting all panicky to get latest the smartphone and I don’t wanna to do the same thing now.

My reasons are all very subjective as you can see, but I don’t feel I own the Deck long enough to suddenly decide it has enough flaws to justify getting the OLED right away.

I also understand people who are upgrading. Especially if you have the convenience of gifting/selling the old Deck to a family member or something. Under those circumstances I would upgrade too!

  • I am happy that the Deck is doing so well that they managed to release an upgraded model so quickly.

But I am honestly feel kinda salty about this. My next purchase would have been a power bank for long distance flights but now I feel like shit spending 100+ EUR more on my 1st gen 512 Deck, knowing that what I’ve spent so far on accessories would get my the OLED model if I’d sold my current Deck. Which I cannot do btw because Valve lowered the prices of 1st gen models, so the 2nd hand market will be terribly low now).

Realistically I would be too lazy to deal with selling my current Deck and I will prob be over these thoughts tomorrow. Though, I think it is legitimate to be slightly annoyed about this announcement when you think about it financially.
