I actually had a huge upgrade in install speeds on the original LCD by going with a 1TB SSD. The OLED was different because the included SSD was faster.
Thing is, that doesn’t mean much when, as other people have said, the Deck is limited to PCIe 3. So it comes down to power efficiency and price. Right now, Best Buy is selling the WD SN770M for ~$160, and that’s your best bet.
Most (if not all) games are standardized to use SRGB. Basically, the setting would cap the color gamut to be the proper one (SRGB.) If you set it to the middle or native setting, it would be using DCI-P3, which means colors would be more saturated than intended.
Considering the OLED itself is past DCI-P3 coverage (like 110%,) the middle setting may be capping it to 100% DCI-P3 and the native does the full 110%. That’s just speculation…I don’t think there is any clear indication until valve says something or someone tests it.
Haven’t had any issues. Even opened mine up and put in a 2TB.
It’s not only slight improvements. It’s pretty big improvements on everything but raw game performance.
And SD 2 is late 2025 at the earliest.

That’s not what they said. They said there wouldn’t be a performance upgrade for several years and that the next iteration would have things like a new screen.
They didn’t actually announce. Just said that would be the earliest and they have nothing planned
So, it works pretty well as far as the refresh rate is concerned.
But woo lord, it shifts the gamma entirely too much for me. But so far, it’s pretty awesome for messing with things - thank you!
