Many issues are occurring such as
-audio not working
-mic not working
-SD card not being recognized
-200/400 mhz bug
-docking issues
-reverting the update deleting SD card files from some posts I’ve seen
-some games performing worse or some not working at all
Probably recommend just holding off on this update and wait an update or two. I understand this update comes with the SMT fix and Color Saturation and better gpu performance but these bugs are pretty big negatives.

The only huge issue I have had is the desktop task icons are bugged and some games run worse than the last version.
The 3.5.5 stable update went flawlessly for me 🤷
There’s a lot of noise out there because the Steam Deck is practically infinitely customizable with thousands of guides and tips on the Internet being used by people that are technically illiterate. Then they update, and one of those customizations break, and they have no idea what’s going on and just shit on Valve. Are they using an incompatible Decky plugin? Are they dual-booting the internal drive? Have they made manual customizations to their Deck from some Internet guide but didn’t really know what they were doing? Is the Micro SD card really erased or is the mount point changed or something else?
Updating from beta or preview to stable? Valve’s undoubtedly made breaking changes between the preview versions and the final stable version, so they have to support updating to stable 3.5.5 from not only stable 3.4 but a number of preview and beta versions that have potentially been customized by users too.
I’m not saying that there are zero problems with the 3.5.5 stable update. But Reddit will be full of complaints while everyone else is just playing with their Decks.
You act like people don’t try to factory reset or wipe their Steam Decks. Are you a Valve PR guy? Who has the time to write an essay for a comment - unless you’re paid for it?
Imagine downplaying what others have experienced upon updating and then calling them technically illiterate just because you didn’t experience the same.
The problem isn’t just for those with customization (mods or plugins) or those who went from preview to stable. Which you would have known if you looked into it instead of shoving it under. Heck some of the issues were from the previous (stable) update build as well that has not yet been fixed.
I’m not running any mods, any plug-ins, cryo, nothing. My deck is borked and hard crashing on attempting to start games now that previously ran fine. Talk about a condescending sanctimonious post. I’m glad your deck is working fine. I really wish mine was. It’s my sole gaming device and it’s always been something I supported and loved. It’s the second one I’ve purchased because I had to sell the first to help with family medical bills. The fact they pushed a “stable” update that’s done this to me and a lot of others isn’t because of the users.
My SD card isn’t recognized and now desktop mode consistently freezes and dolphin crashes EVERYTIME so I can’t even view it mount my card

Warhammer Darktide does not work.
Some of my games have audio cracking
Sometimes when I connect to my monitor the screen bugs out, disconnecting and connecting again seems to fix it.
Darktide was the first issue I encountered. Constant hard crashes to reboot/verifying install.
My SD card doesn’t register on the deck which is annoying since all but one game is on their now I have to wait for another update for the fucken thing to work Ffs
You can add to the list the fact that in desktop mode, many apps won’t update as the source for the packages can’t be found :(
When will I ever learn NOT to update the deck right before sleeping. 🤦
- Dual Boot is broken again.
- Gamepad stopped working. Had to find my usb-c dongle since I mostly use bluetooth m/kb.
- Have to reinstall rEFInd but I forgot my sudo password.
- Have to find a free usb stick for steam recovery and password reset.
- Pray to the machine gods that I get this fixed in an hour so I can still get some sleep.
I love how community downvote these concerns to hell. TBH my excitement changed to disappointment. Valve pickled this update for almost a year. Obviously (now) waiting for release of second SD revision, only to release it suddenly from preview straight to stable (no beta lol) ignoring several issues (you can check on their tracker). I used to Blizzard doing things like that all the time but not Valve.
Preview is the OS beta channel. This may be confusing to some, so let me explain.
First of all we need to separate SteamOS into the client (Steam itself) and the OS. Both have their own branches.
The client has both the stable and the beta channel.
The OS has the following channels:
- Stable
- Stable release candidate
- Beta
- Beta candidate
- Main
You can see these separate channel pickers when enabling developer options and the advanced update channels option there.
By default SteamOS simplifies the channel picker into 3 preset options:
- Stable which is the stable client and OS
- Beta which is the Steam beta client on the current stable OS
- Preview which is both the beta client and beta OS
This means that the default beta option in SteamOS does in fact not include any OS beta. Only the Steam client beta.
The preview channel or otherwise known as SteamOS beta channel has had 3.5 in beta for over 2 months. Updates have trickled down in from channels in the order beta candidate -> beta -> stable release candidate -> Stable. This release has been through 3 levels of testing channels before landing in stable.
I don’t mind the opinion that 3.5 may have been undercooked to some as they indeed held on to a deadline with the OLED launch. I just want to correct the claim about a lack of beta.
It’s so cringe too scrolling down and seeing 5 posts at 0 with like 10+ comments all saying that the new update is being buggy is fine and not acknowledging things like the microSD card wiping bug, and conveniently omitting that Valve skipped the beta channel entirely
Really they skipped it? I haven’t noticed much problems accpet for desktop mode being bugy. I used too have shortcuts and now they are buggy and won’t show up. The performances have been improved from what I noticed . The SD card thing is a serious .

Very simple actually. Mine is currently downgrading. Mine wouldn’t sleep so was having to shut it down. After I did when I went into my games I was having an issue where I was getting like 9/10 FPS
200/1040 gpu issue too
Same, never had any frequency bugs before updating, getting really inconsistent performance now
I have this issue but all my games play fine. I saw that if the gpu need more it will still boost up to 1600 for me idk about everyone else
When I put mine to sleep it immediately turns back on.
Storage trim is probably running, check in the settings page. Once it completed it will stop doing that
I checked everything and saw nothing. I tried it docked, undocked, turned WiFi and Bluetooth off. Then I believe I was getting the 200/400 bug. I was getting like 9-10FPS. I rolled back to previous OS and everything is working great again.
Are you ABSOLUTELY POSITIVE storage trim wasn’t running? Reverting back to the old OS would likely stop it from running temporarily
I had the same issue and storage trim WASN’T running, the problem was having the micro SD inserted. Whenever I had the SD, the Deck would just turn back on after a second, I removed the SD and everything worked

Downgrade to 3.4.11 everthing working, but after restart go back to 3.5.5
