My OLED deck was in the official case and it fell off my bed onto a carpeted floor (2.5 feet). When I opened the case I noticed that the left side of the deck had opened. I had to snap the body back together. According to other posters, this is a common occurrence dating back to the original launch window. I’d recommend everyone look into a more drop protected case.

The deck is extremely prone to coming apart when Impacted.

Sort of feels like it’s because they want it to be easy for folks to open and get at the inside. Probably otherwise it would be hell to pry open the case.

While we’re talking about anecdotes, I knocked mine off the kitchen table onto the linoleum without a case, and the only damage was a small scuff mark.

ULPT: Having trouble opening the steam deck case after removing screws? Drop the deck in the case, onto a carpeted floor, approximately 2.5 feet off the ground and it should open like magic. 👍
