Mmm ordered yesterday the 64gb to upgrade to 1 tb. Feel like I should just return it as soon as it arrives and just go for the OLED 1tb (mainly the extra battery life and quieter fans)
At very least, you should get the $50 credit cause the model you bought just went down in price.
That being said, adding your own 1tb nvme will run you around $110. So you be paying at least an extra $150 for the screen and battery. May be worth it, but that’s up to you
I agree that the new option will be $150 additional compared to the upgrading the SSD myself. I would just add to the list of benefits you had (screen/battery) also the fact of not having to actually do the upgrade (which is quick and will go well but still…)

I have received a reply from Steam Support and they have offered:
once received to return it (they will provide the information) - this will allow a full refund on my original payment method. I can then buy the new deck when it comes out
get a refund to my steam wallet and repurchase the 64gb with that refund at the new lower price. The difference will remain in my steam wallet for future purchases, but I do not have to send the deck back
It all seems fairly reasonable, you could argue that even in case of 2 it would be great to have the refund applied to my original payment method but I will end up buying some games so it’s probably fair to use the wallet option.
Though I suspect I’ll go with 1

Just refuse the delivery then you won’t have to go trough the hassle of returning it
In their policies they seem to state that you cannot just send things back without discussing it with them.
As shared in another comment Support said that to get the refund on my original payment method I need to accept delivery and then just ship it back.
It does seem a waste of travel/time but probably easier to go with the establish method
