RDNA 1 was fine, RDNA 2 was good, RDNA 3 is disappointing. RDNA3 could have been great, but AMD continues to deliver lackluster RT Performance combined with bad pricing and software problems (FSR3 and Anti-Lag+). If the current line up was 100$ cheaper it would have been good.

Rdna was fine , i had a choice of a 2060 or 5700xt which is 20% better average and trades blows with a 2070. Realistically can a 2060 be used for any meaningful ray tracing no , it has all the dx12 ultimate features which only came into effect 4 years after in one title which not out yet. Playing alan wake 2 with 30fps on low settings with dlss quality 1080p is not really the winning point for a 2060 or 2060 super after 4 years. Also you could’ve traded in the 5700xt for a 6700xt in some markes during the crypto boom. Rdna 1 offered good price to perf at the entry to midrange 4 years ago which cant be remotely compared to bulldozer.

Much closer to Zen than to Bulldozer. RDNA architecture has been very good in general, only Navi 3x RDNA3 disappointed and didn’t improve much over Navi 2x in either performance or efficiency. Ray tracing, upscaling, AI, GPGPU and drivers might no be on par with Nvidia, but to even suggest that it’s a failure like Bulldozer is lame and dishonest.

I think what a lot of people in this thread forget is that Nvidia discounted the GTX 970 to a ridiculously low price that a lot gamers switched to Nvidia. Then the 10 series out the gate was still relatively low priced especially the 1080ti. I do hope AMD can turn the discreet graphics sector around to gain more market share like they have done with Ryzen.

The way it’s going it’s basically a repeat of the GCN era, especially with the obligatory only mid range generation coming up followed by getting completely obsoleted.

It matches up pretty well too. Early GCN1/2 did about as well as RDNA2 and RDNA3 is roughly in the same spot as the 300 series.

Bulldozer was the exact opposite in terms of how the units behaved. Currently, it’s nvidia with the ‘make moar corez’ meme, and AMD could have been in the reckoning for the top spot in raster with a chip that has like a third of the shaders of nvidia’s.

AMD’s failing this gen is again not improving the clockspeeds. And of course, not making a chip the size of nvidia’s flagchip.

As for RT, I don’t think the difference is that big hardware-wise. AMD are overperforming in raster and nvidia have sort of a software monopoly right now with the PT game being done with their collaboration.
