My family has two 1TB Decks and both have connection issues, especially with 5G (does not work). Local Steam network transfer is slow as well, but blazing fast on LCD Decks and Ally. At least 2.4G works for the most part.
Not messing with my router, since every other device in the house works great. Dev option of disabling power saving for Wi-Fi did not help.
I have a black 1TB OLED and so far have zero issues powering a mechanical 5tb portable drive. Also have a USB dongle for mouse and keyboard.
Using a third party dock, though, and 100W charger. Same as I used with the LCD Deck.
Both my son’s and my OLED arent working with 5G. My Ally and our soon to be sold LCD Decks all work fine… Heck, all devices work great except the OLEDs.

2 4G internet downloading is fine and getting up to 140mb. Not messing with my router since fixing one device model tends to mess everything else up. All devices are fine except the OLED Deck.
Valve actually did a great job. I’m a portfolio product manager for a large company with a huge supply chain. What they have done so far seems impressive to me, and I’m a very “constructively” critical person.
I got my son the LE and I got the normal 1TB. Looks cool, but I prefer the black.
If a mechanical drive, it probably needs to be powered. I use a dock for transferring stuff. I think the drive also needs to be formatted ExFat for Steam OS to read external drives.
It might be a setting with your router. I’m having issues with 5G (connects but keeps saying “can’t connect to servers”.) The 2.4 is downloading at 130mb, so that seems fine for now. Turning off power setting did not help me either. Leaving my router alone though, since have a lot of other devices on 5G and don’t want to maybe fix the Deck, but screw everything else up.
The OLED is really different!
Try Redream. It’s way better, IMO. Redream runs 60 FPS even on lower-mid level ARM chips.
