So far i see no dead Pixels
Anyone have an idea of what a replacement panel might go for in the future?
I have a dead green pixel but I really don’t want to go through the RMA hassle and stress.
The LCD replacements from iFixit are $90 and the third party higher res screens are $100 so I would guess probably between $90 and $120
A Switch OLED screen replacement is $160 on iFixit, and that’s a mass-manufactured part in the millions. Given the larger screen size and smaller quantities for the Steam Deck, I wouldn’t be surprised if it’s $200+.
Yeah I think I’ll hold out and just replace it at a later date then play screen lottery.
But you’ll be playing screen lottery when you buy the replacement.
I hope they will have it sorted out by then and I’ll have the option to select Samsung.
I imagine the OLED panels could be considerably more expensive given the minimum unit with one is $550.
BOE is fine. Before a single deck even shipped everyone was hung up on glossy vs etched which is also a non-issue.
They are both literally issues, because etched vs glossy is a preference because there IS a difference. BOE screens being much more likely to have dead pixels is also an issue.
But if you’re lucky to not have any dead pixel, that thing is beautiful.
Found two dead subpixels on my LE BOE Deck. I’ve already started a return and ordered the 512 GB. I also don’t like the translucent body as much as I expected and want a glossy screen.
You are obviously a burrito of wit and class.
Let’s fix that downvote, since some Reddit luddites don’t pay attention to usernames or understand how humor works.
It’s not the screens that are the big issue, it’s the loose buttons
Like the dpad? I feel mine is…
Is that exclusive to the Limited Edition or are the non-limited having loose buttons as well?
I noticed the buttons on my LE are loose / make noise. My OG LCD doesn’t do this - but I don’t have a non-LE OLED to test.
My lLCD has squeaky left joystick. I wish I had RMA’d it. If the LE makes noise I might go with the non LE 1tb
I have a non-LE 1TB on the way to compare to my LE. Will keep the one that feels the best in the hand.
Really wanted to love the LE but it just feels cheap in the hand.
Me walking with my hot ass, steam deck 512gb.
I wonder if BOE panels are actually more likely to have dead pixels or if this is a case of the vocal minority. It’s always hard to tell because with a lot of issues like this, they get blown way outta proportion on Reddit.
Even 10% would be a huge number for an out-of-box defect.
If it’s reasonably likely is questionable. If someone has a defect on a new product they’ve been excited for, you’re absolutely right that they’d be vocal. This even happened with the LCDs when first waves were being shipped out.
But I will say it’s almost certain that BOE panels do have on average more defects than Samsung panels, including dead pixels. Even if the average for both is low.
Also, limited edition runs with more manual interaction will always have slightly higher defect rates. So it’s the perfect combination of a small problem, ignorance, and a very large megaphone.
I found one after reading about it here
Well but if its both manufacturer, then there would be people complaining about both non-LE and LE versions even if reddit/internet is a small sample size. A possible explanation is that people on the internet disproportionately buy more of the LE and so there are more LE that can fail even if the failure percentage is the same. I don’t think we’ll know for sure until Valve release official numbers.
This is a fair take on it too.
Did the dead pixel check on my LE, zero dead pixels thankfully! Still wish valve went with Samsung.
What is BOE?
What is BOE? The maker of the screen? I dont have an OLED.
The honeymoon period for the Steam Deck OLED is officially over. The chase for the “best steamdeck” continues. I love this community.
Took that money saved and dropped in a 2tb too. Samsung screen with no issues wooo
I wouldn’t mind an LE back but I think I genuinely prefer the piano black front more seamless floaty screen vibes for me but YMMV
This meme is hitting too hard for me. Why did they make the LE so pretty?!? Oh well, hoping I have no dead pixels.
Btw, dead pixels is totally legitimate reason to request RMA right?
What is BOE?
