as usual people confuse the OS and the Steam client. this is part of the Steam Beta Client
Wasn’t there supposed to be like a saturation slider added already, or am mistaken?
That’s still in 3.5 preview I think. They are adding features to stable AROUND the big 3.5 update for some reason, but 3.5 is still staying in preview or beta or whatever.
It’s in preview too, https://www.reddit.com/gallery/17po1np
This is awful, the flicker on lower refresh rates is unbearable for me
Wish you could drop the refresh rate to 30 to save power on 30fps games, Starfield would really benefit from the extra juice saved
You can do it with the RefreshRateUnlocker, but if go down to 30hz, you get noticeable PWM strobing on the Display, so it looks like the screen is flickering.
Hell, you get PWM strobing at 40hz, but it’s usually not noticeable if you’re 100% focused on the screen. If you glance at the Deck at 40hz out of the corner of your eye, it’s really distracting, IMO.
If I can get 40, I usually like to turn down settings and try to get 45. If I can’t get 40 reliably anyway, I just accept 30 with 60hz to avoid the distracting flicker.
I have a feeling I am more sensitive to it than most people though. For example, when I saw Oppenheimer on 70mm film, the strobing was very distracting to me, but the people I went with didn’t notice it at all.

Yeah, I noticed that as well.
I can’t deal with 30fps on the Deck though, the input lag is just way too high.
Agreed. I don’t play at anything under 40fps on the Deck. Tried Starfield at 30 and it was annoying. Ended up streaming from PC to Deck when I actually wanted to play Starfield handheld.
3.5 coming out in 2025 lol
Seriously. It’s taken way too long. Just release it already instead of adding more shit. The multi threading alone needs to be out for everyone.
I wager they still have outstanding bugs to fix, which is why they backport important features to stable.
They wouldn’t do that if 3.5 on stable was around the corner.
I was just about to make a suggestion on the steam bord to suggest a 35hz refresh rate by forcing a halving of 70hz.
Anyone else notice for like an hour that the setting showed “refreshrate” and something called “Game refreshrate”? What was up with that?
this is the second update to this UI in the past few days
Is this even an update? I tend to play with 30 fps on 60 refresh rate so f me I guess
BTW, you can disable the unified slider by going into Settings->Display, then scroll to the bottom and disable “Unified Frame Limit Management”.
Thank you! This was causing issues with PCSX2, because I couldnt set my screen refresh rate to 50Hz, while simultaneously disabling the frame limiter. The latter causes extreme input lag in PCSX2.
Would you mind screenshoting that as I tried to find that in settings->display & I scrolled to the bottom like you said & couldn’t find it. I’m on the main/preview channel I tried rebooting my deck & can’t find the option to disable it whether docked or not & the only way I’m currrently able to get the option to control refresh rate back is through developer options to coontrol external display refresh rate.
Here is how to do it:
1.) Go to Settings->System and “Enable Developer Mode”
2.) Go to Settings->Developer (very bottom) and turn off “Enable Unified Frame Limit Management”Thanks for the reply but I had already mentioned going to developer mode when I asked for the screenshot as all I can find in developer mode that can help me at the moment is allow external display refresh control. I can’t find the enable unified frame limit management option I scrolled all the way down both in the display settings menu & in the developer settings looked carefully & still the option to enable unified frame limit management isn’t showing up.
I had thought there was a latency advantage to turning off the system-level frame limiter and relying on in-game vsync where available, is that not true and does this take it away?
thats true and still true. This change doesn’t change anything about that
I do the same thing, though there is a switch disable frame limit so it’s fine.
The input lag introduced by merging them was atrocious. Immediately went back to old method
It’s even worse than before??
The input latency caused by the Decks limiter was already very high.
If you set Framerate Limit to Off and set Referesh Rate to 40 then the input lag is manageable. Setting both to 40 is a gd nightmare.
elaborate?
So I know that we can separate the frame limit & the refresh rate again back to original under steam button menu, but what is that toggle disable framerate limit underneath do exactly ? Is it just the shortcut for off ?
