I bought them to sell because it’s the only way to turn steam credit into cash. I just put them up for auction though so all of mine sold.

I sold all my csgo skins in the peak of cs2 hype mania. My knife for example which was circa £300 I sold for £700 during the hype. Literally got more than double my money back on it.

Steam deck is pretty modular can’t folks just swap out the screen themselves?

In Switzerland, we can only get a deck from resellers. I think the 512gb model was sold at 900 usd here. Some try to sell their used decks for even more lol

I hate scalping because it negatively impacts me, but scalpers absolutely provides a service regardless of how scummy we think it is. Objectively speaking, scalping guarantees you a product that would’ve flown off the shelves just as fast at MSRP, but you pay a hefty premium for that guarantee

To give an example with the PS5. Scalpers buy up a whole supply. Middle aged gamer dad who doesn’t have the time to hunt for stock, which he still would’ve had to do without scalpers, sees an eBay listing. He has the money for it, so he says fk it and gets a PS5 way sooner than he would’ve othwrwise

Buying a scalped product is one of a few options for getting something in crazy high demand. You could wait anxiously for each supply drop to get one instantly (which isn’t a given even w/o bots) before they’re sold out, you could go on a waiting list for when the next stock is ready (have to wait for others first) for you specifically, or you could skip all that and pay the premium for one that’s easily accessible on eBay

To play a bit of devil’s advocate, from what Ive seen scalpers are usually people from parts of the world with virtually no better ways to make money and/or people with very few economic opportunities.

But not always, sometimes it’s just some broski with too much time and money on their hands lol

You’re either delusional or a scalper yourself. Either way stop defending this with “what if”. There are lots of ways to make money, even in those “parts of the world”. Scalping is scummy and trashy even if it happened on Mars.

Always but is this really the smartest move by Steam?

No one asked for an oled. Not sure how the deck will work but my tv wants shutting down every 5 hours to stop screen burn. I’ve no idea how that will work with a high demand game pumping at 10x the heat of my tv

Secondly no one asked for this. Everyone I know wanted an inch bigger screen, better performance.

So now they want £550 for oled and 1-2 fos boost and a bigger battery.

I would have purchased this, but then the lenovo legion exists giving me 1.5 inches bigger screen and a 30 fps improvement, for an extra £150

I mean steam have essentially pushed me away by not listening. So scalpers will be done as I’m putting my deck for sale on cheap as a few of my friends are.

Who wanted a bigger screen? Steam Deck is already pretty big for a handheld. 90Hz OLED is the biggest game changer they could do without making Deck 2. Nintendo did the same.

I would have preferred a slightly larger one: But the OLED pushes back the bevels a bit, so it effectively has one!

No one asked for an oled.

People have been asking for an OLED since the Deck released.

Secondly no one asked for this.

Why is your first and second point the exact same.

I would have purchased this, but then the lenovo legion exists giving me 1.5 inches bigger screen and a 30 fps improvement, for an extra £150

Cool, buy the Lenovo then. Glad you solved your own problem.

I mean steam have essentially pushed me away by not listening.

F’s in the chat for the billions of dollars Valve have costed themselves by pushing you away. 😔

I mean for regions that aren’t currently selling it, wouldn’t it still be potentially an attractive buy for those trying to save a few bucks where they can’t buy it officially?

They aren’t wildly available. Stock in Australia is purely from grey imports because Valve refuses to sell them here.

It’s not even really grey market. I don’t think valve cares if people buy decks and ship them to Australia to sell. Just like Tim tams can be bought in a ton of countries despite only being sold in Australia (I think). As long as someone else is doing the logistics, they don’t care where it gets resold.
