Q2 gang here but I feel your disappointment, you would have better off waiting. But honestly, there is always a better version to wait. The Steam Deck 2, then Steam Deck 2 OLED, then SD3 etc. I mean, have a good time with your deck, it’s still a good console and wait and see.
That being said, it’s easy for me to say, the limited version is not available in my country. I don’t need it, but want it so bad lol

I bought it 3 weeks ago, right outside the return period. I’m selling it and buying an Oled, I know I would be constantly eyeing the better model.
I bought it 13 months ago, so I´m in peace.
Bought mine in early June, had 3 great months out of it but now it’s collecting dust :(
For some reason I’m preferring the Switch OLED again. The form factor is so much lighter and easier to throw around the house.
I also play my PS5 more, so maybe the Portal and Switch combo is for me. I know you can stream to Deck but I kinda like easy functionality, e.g Portal idea.
I use my deck to travel but besides that I also don’t use it too much.
I was initially tempted to get the OLED but then realized how long it’s been since I’ve popped the case open.
Not saying it’s a bad device at all. But for me personally it didn’t end up being a piece of tech I used as much as I thought I would
This is me. I would have jumped on the revision but unfortunately what I am finding is:
- Not “portable” enough to leave the house most of the time (battery, size, weight etc.)
- Struggling to play what I am currently interested in (compatibility and power)
- Don’t use trackpads enough
- Emulation is great, but I have played everything I wanted on my PC ages ago and tend not to enjoy replaying games anymore
Don’t regret getting it at all, but I am kind of starting to appreciate why nintendo may have sacrificed so much power, especially since they have games tailor made for their system. And why upgrading to the OLED is going to be a pass for me

I’m probably just old now. But I’ve really started not getting as interested in modern games anymore. At least, AAA games that is. Most of them feel way to big, with content spread thin.
I’m actually going back to older titles I never played back then and enjoying myself. Besides the few new gems, of course.
For me the SteamDeck was a no-brainer. I have a huge library of unplayed games on Steam, many of which aren’t even on Switch. Add emulation to that, and it’s a perfect device. It’s just about being able to play on the couch next to my wife, and not just sitting in my office by myself all the time.

Not signifcantly lighter or high enough battery (edit: battery is actually more than enough for me, this is cope speaking) to push me for the new model, but by all means this is 100% the definitive version of the Deck
Not worth it to try and sell my current one. But definitely the way to go if you’re just now buying the system.
I’ll stick with my current one until they’re actually doing a follow-up or this one breaks out of warranty.
What annoys me the most is spending money on accessories for my 512 GB to mitigate issues that the OLED will fix/improve.
Longer USB cable, thinner carrying case, was considering a power bank too but hey the OLED has better battery life.
I’m happy that Valve is considering the user feedback. But still…ouch my wallet lol
I try to think about all the previous handheld PCs I skipped to get the deck. I was looking really hard at the original aya neo and I think they had a second model before the steam deck launched as well. I was really on the fence but ended up passing.
I’ve also had my steam deck for about a year now and been able to really enjoy it. I finished red dead reception 2 on a handheld while I was at work, so that was special.
I thought the centerpieces were tacky in that game.
this is technology. i always laugh when people cry about buying something in tech then the next week the new and improved comes out and they were “cheated”. get over it, this has been going on for YEARS. it’s part of being a consumer. and NO, it’s not a bad business practice for a company to not give any advance warning on an update. it’s simply business.

Given the huge amount of fun and joy the Deck gave me over the past few months, I’d buy it again in a heartbeat. Hell, I’d even buy a OLED model just to show my support and appreciation to Valve.
I’m voting with my wallet and picking up an OLED too. I want to help keep this whole endeavor going (Steam Deck, Proton, etc.)
I’ve had mine for over a year. I like the improvements, most of all with battery life and capacity. I only just upgraded mine to a 1TB SSD and won’t replace it until a Steam Deck 2 comes out.
Eh, I’ve already Decked mine out with SSDs, skins, screen protectors, etc and I’ve already got my configurations setup along with my gaming library. I don’t wanna do all that again, so I’m gonna rock with my regular Deck.
People are making way too much of this. I’m thankful there’s an upgrade - I personally feel no reason to upgrade and am waiting for steam deck 2.0
That’s what the announcement effect is made for, we can easily be hype by a new product even if we don’t need to buy it

Got mine March 2022. Happily get a new one and give old one to the partner.
Too many whiners. New tech is always around the corner. The deck is a good machine oled or not.
When Steamdeck Vita gets here is when it’s Real Shit time.
Bought mine like 2 months ago, maybe a bit less. The initial OLED hype is strong, but the OG deck is still perfectly viable for my use case.
If it’ll seriously break anytime soon - I’ll consider OLED, but not before that.
