The Z1 chips also don’t get AMD software drivers, they get it from whoever makes the device(Asus for the Ally etc).

The Z1 series are not a great investment, they don’t get updates from AMD like the 7000 series gets.
Buy the 7840 line instead.
I’m a fan of this product.
We just need someone to run a multitude of tests on both of them to see the difference and hopefully they are close enough that it won’t matter.
But we should know by now that sometimes they are not equal and there can be a clearly superior option.
Sell yours for at least $250, spend $300 more to get OLED, enjoy best steam deck for the next 18-24 months before SD2 releases.
Is $300 worth up to 2 years of a way better HDR screen, a good jump in battery life and the other various improvements? It’s like $12.50 a month. How many cups of coffee do you drink a month?
Side benefit: gives someone that can’t afford a SD at full price a way into the ecosystem.
Seems silly to make you wait for no reason other than it being an Xmas present. If it was clothes or other boring stuff sure, wait, but a SD? Your probably frothing at the mouth to play it.
Just in time to replace my AMD phenom ii X4 955 BE.
Prometheus on 4nm, Samsung 4nm? While also on TSMC 3nm?
I’m pressing X on this one.
If they are buying Samsung 4nm it’s probably just to put zen4c on.
Zen 5 cpu, no higher than 4.5Ghz. At least 16 CU RDNA4, no higher than 2.5Ghz. VRR OLED 120Hz, 8 Inch screen more than 800p but less than 1200p, keeping the same aspect ratio of the current SD. 24GB at least 9600MT/s RAM, 6 channel memory configuration. 55-60W battery. Reduce size(length) by about 10% Reduce weight to 600g or less. Thunderbolt 4 support. Sell to Australia.
Seems like the OLED hasn’t got the low wattage optimizations the original deck has, hopefully the OLED gets those optimizations in future patches.
The OLED will keep the screen refresh rate at 90Hz for 30fps content, so each frame will be refreshed 3 times before moving to the next frame.
Linus touched on a potential reason why there’s no VRR.
Clickbait.
It would have to be 3nm based as 5nm isn’t enough of a jump from 7nm to give valve the performance jump they are looking for.
Zen5c cpu is the most likely CPU successor due to smaller die space than zen5 normal and how it won’t need to boost to 5Ghz+ like in desktop/mobile SoC’s.
RDNA 4 is the most likely GPU successor as RDNA3 is a dud and RDNA5 won’t be ready in time for SD2(late 2025 IMO).
LPDDR6 is possible, speeds starting at 12800MT/s vs the SD OLEDs 6400MT/s.
Why would you compare max settings?
How the F do you accidentally send to another address?
